Barely a day after Hon. Timothy Yohanna, a former councillor, representing Humbutudi ward, Pakka district of Maiha local government, Adamawa state, regained freedom from the fist of kidnappers, trying to feast on his life with sumptuous ransom, Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have yesterday at night occupied Gerete community in Sorau district of Maiha LGA.
Eyewitness account revealed that the gunmen killed a courageous Fulani herdsman called Adamu Denne who resisted to be kidnapped, challenging that he would rather die than submit to the idiots. He considered kidnapping as a disguised modern day form of slave trade.
Having killed the courageous herdsman, the kidnappers whisked away his neighbour, called Malam Haji Pullo.
“There’s no communication as to the ransom yet,” the family source would say; praying that their relative would be reunited with his family soon.

Hon. Timothy, who regained freedom about a week later, was kidnapped in his Humbutudi house on December 18, 2020. The kidnappers initially requested for five million naira as ransom. They rejected one million naira the family offered, threatening to feed vultures with their victim’s carcass, should the family failed to pay ten million instead of the five million naira initially announced because they felt humiliated by what they considered as “miserable bargain”.
Speaking Saturday, the distinguished chairman, Maiha local government, Hon. Idi Ali Amin said, the local council and the security agencies along with the vigilante and hunters “are intensifying security. The new strategy is aimed at bringing an end to kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminality between borders.
The chairman noted that the criminals were not based anywhere in Maiha local government area. “They are from some of the towns in Cameroon republic that share Border with Maiha. They use motorcycles to operate.” the chairman explained.
The chairman lamented that the number of security personnel is grossly inadequate in Maiha local government. He called on the government to employ and redeploy more security personnel.
One of the measures taken against insecurity, is the banning of motorcycles operation in the local government from 6mp to 6am.
