ON Adamawa Government Killer Squad And The Three Threatened Newsmen
Now That Bindow Is Back
By Adam Muhammad DodoThree newsmen, corresponding for national media organisations in Adamawa State alleged that their lives were threatened by Adamawa state government organised killer squad, charged with the responsibility of either cooking them to great beyond or cooling them to permanent cripple, ceiling their kind of investigative journalism aimed at exposing the hidden atrocities of Bindow led government.
The three threatened news have, through their lawyer, petitioned the Inspector General of police, pointed out the need for protection.
In Adamawa, the allegation was liken to Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood, Kanywood and should their be, Eurowood and Chinawood put together for the script writers and directors to come up with Adawood movy kind of presumed reality show.
The three threatened newsmen are:
Adenusi Owolabi of TVC
Hindi Livinus of the Punch newspaper
Phineas Padio of Sahara Reporters,
The petition, dated September 7, 2018 and copied to the office of Adamawa State Governor, Director DSS, AIG zone 3, Brigade Commander 23 Armored Brigade Yola, Commandant NSCDC and NUJ Chairman Adamawa state council.
The Periscope Global Investigate, in striking a balance, took the task of getting any response against the allegation from the side of Adamawa state government.
The information under investigation seemed to be strange for the respondents who would shelve it with a wave of hand as simply a tale by the moonlight told in broad daylight; as a classic case of alarmism.
It could also be a conspiracy against Bindow’s second term bid. The respondent would argue
We really are in the time for showcasing achievements, persuading the electorates. How insensitive could the government behave, going by the allegation, in organising a killer squad when it should set up a healthy public relations campaign squad with a view to winning election?
However, the allegation was so weighty to be accommodated or to just let go. A government that should protect lives and properties of its citizens should not be found accused of degenerating into savagery and barbarity against the relative peace nurtured in the state.
Governor Bindow has returned. His excellency was not in town when the petition was served.
For this editorial, we are calling for the government of Adamawa state to respond to the allegation accordingly. The three threatened newsmen, should give a clue to what could have informed the weighty allegation for the relevant security agencies to swing into action in dismantling, should there be, the government organised killer squad before any group with criminal tendency, could get to take advantage of the content of the allegation to terrorise our dear peaceful state.
