Borno: IBDFM Inducts New Members, Encourages Efficiency And entrepreneurship

The Institute of Business Diplomacy and Financial Management (IBDFM) has held the 6th Edition of her Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD), Investiture of Fellowship and Induction of New Members at the Conference Hall of the Unimaid Commercial Guest House, University of Maiduguri, on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

The Programme with the theme: “Entrepreneurship: A Sine qua non for Poverty Alleviation in Nigeria” started at about 10:00 am with the arrival of the President and Chairman of Council of the Institute, Professor Ayuba A. Aminu who is also a Professor of Business Management in the same University.

In his keynote/welcome address, Professor Aminu described the theme chosen for the programme as quite apt and timely, considering the latest report by the World Poverty Clock, which indicated that Nigeria has overtaken India as the Country with the most extreme poor people in the World.

Aminu said that the 86.9 million Nigerians now living in poverty (according to the report) represented nearly 50% of its estimated 180 million population.

This was coming at a time when Nigeria was struggling to meet the deadline of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to end extreme poverty by the year 2030 he added.

Aminu pointed out that although the struggle to lift more Nigerians out of extreme poverty was an indictment on successive Nigerian governments, which have mismanaged the Country’s vast oil riches through incompetence and corruption, government alone could not alleviate poverty in Nigeria without the cooperation and support of the private sector, which is the major driver of economic growth.

“This is where Entrepreneurship becomes not just important but necessary for the alleviation of poverty in the country,” he said.

Professor Aminu congratulated those joining the Institute as Members (Inductees): Fellows, Senior Members, Full Members, Associate Members and Graduate Members, describing them as being very fortunate joining the Institute at a time when Admission was still by qualification and experience, i.e. direct professional membership adding that there was a new notice in the Institute’s website

(www.ibdfm.com.ng), that as from January, 2019, Admission into this Institute would only be attained through sitting for and passing the qualifying professional examinations.
