A Eurostar Meeting Of Africans In Diaspora For Reminiscence Before Despatch

By Amira Umar

That hamatan moment you get into that quite rail station only to bump into your lost country alumni.

In the midst of silence nearing midnight when many passengers in transit are waiting to board or whiling away time till morning for their time to commence, then you hear vulgar voice of compatriot Africans; “Enhee am from Accra, Malabo, Lugumbashi, Kampala, Lagos..” chating spree and flaunting of being African Diaspora(s); with such emphasis, people prop up to see what’s happening, including the smart clad security officers.

Not one to disappoint, I returned the pleasantry. We looked one another in happiness as though we knew each other long before.

One tummy Ugandan teased with me that we looked identical(twins).

I bursted into huge laughter, which eventually, radiated; pushing everybody into uncontrollable laughter.

We looked back and condensed our chat to normal conversation. Then the boarding call was made and just like how we met, we each took our train to destination next.

In a place where we left an imprint hard that no one would notice us.

We left pleasantry aura there.

Realy proud of our African identy
