Emission Control Center To Be Commissioned Soon, say NADDC

The National Automotive Design and Development (NADDC), said the Council is forging ahead with its implementation of the automotive industry development policy that is geared towards encouraging automakers to set up vehicle production plants in Nigeria.
According to the Council, the Emission Control Testing Centers NADDC is building in Lagos is almost completed and will be ready for commissioning in the coming months.
Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations Unit of NADDC, Mrs. Susan Taiwo Bisong made those disclosures on Tuesday in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.
She said the National Automotive Industry Development Bill (NAIDP) will soon be given assented to by the President, once the review of the Bill was concluded.
The NADDC deputy director said the center was being developed along with two other auto test centres to ensure that vehicles coming out of Nigerian auto plants met acceptable international standard, adding the Council was totally focused on achieving these set objectives.
Pointing out there was no internal rift in the council on how to achieve these goals; she explained that the vehicle emission testing centre is located on the premises of the Lagos State Polytechnic in Ikorodu with more than 95 per cent completion.
“All vehicles being assembled and produced in the country by different automakers will be subjected to a test at the centre to know their emission level before they are approved for sale/use in the country’, she said.
“The other two auto test centres are the materials and vehicle evaluation test centre in Zaria, Kaduna State; and the auto components test centre in Enugu”, noting the construction of automotive industry supplier parks in Osogbo (Osun State), Kaduna (Kaduna State) and Nnewi (Anambra State) were also on course.
