The federal government has renewed the appointment of Prof. Auwal Abubakar as the medical director, Federal Medical Centre, Yola, Adamawa state for a second of four years in advance, with effect from April 2, 2019

Congratulating the medical director on his renewed appointment, the Minister of state for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, urged him to imbibe the spirit of team work and ensure that the hospital continues to provide quality healthcare services to citizens of Adamawa state and its environs.

This was contained in a statement signed Thursday by the Director, Media and Public Relations, Boade Akinola.

Dr. Ehanire also advised the new medical director to focus more on effective service delivery, in order to build public trust in the health sector. This, he said could be achieved by treating patients with respect.

Ehanire further charged the medical director to endeavour to improve on the achievements already attained at the hospital and justify the confidence reposed on him by working with all stakeholders in the sector.

During Prof Auwal’s first four yes tenure, FMC Yola has witnessed tremendous transformation befitting, for upgrade to a teaching hospital, the Periscope Global Investigate can reveal.

Departments of Surgery, Medicine, Obstetric and Gynaecology and Anaesthetics of the FMC Yola won the approval by the West African College of Surgeons and the West African College of Physicians to run postgraduate (residency) training. Other departments are said to be prepared, waiting for accreditation by the regulatory bodies.

The establishment of medical outreach in Jada and Hong local government areas in collaboration with Adamawa state government for the benefit of patients in rural areas and as requirement for the approval to run a teaching hospital, is another commendable achievement.

postgraduate training in preoperative nursing is equally being run by FMC Yola having won the accreditation by the nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria in addition to gaining approval to train the nursing and midwifery students of the college of nursing and midwifery Yola Adamawa state.

The successful separation of conjoined twins and the establishment of hospital paupers fund in FMC Yola by Prof. Auwal are equally unprecedented achievements that earn the MD and the FMC Yola international recognition with so numerous to mention productivity awards, including the Periscope Global Publishers 2016 and 2017 achievers award, in addition to being a nominee for the Periscope Global Publishers 2018 productivity award.

There were contributions of medical facilities from a hospital in Canada, in USA and the Nigerian Muslim Forum United Kingdom among others.

The International Red Cross and the International Rescue Committee, in addition to federal government initiatives, have made good in facility developments to FMC Yola.

The Future Assured a Dr. Aishah Muhammadu Buhari initiative, has equally extended it’s intervention in healthcare to FMC Yola by building and equipping with state-of-the-art facility, an extension of maternity complex, the work, by conservative estimate, is above 80% completion stage.

The Adamawa state government, apart from donating peace of land for the expansion, extension and intensive development of the hospital, donated over millions naira worth, brand new 550 KVA generator to FMC Yola. thanks to governor Bindow.
