Buhari signs new minimum wage bill, Adamawa governor elect promises to comply
President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, signed the N30, 000 new minimum wage bill for public servants.
The bill, which has now become a law, would usher in a new pay structure for Nigerian workers.
State governors have earlier opposed the N30,000 minimum wage, which many of them argued, they would be unable to meet up.
A political analyst articulated that the approval of the N30. 000 minimum wage would open a vista for industrial disharmony in many states.
Adamawa state governor elect, Rt. Hon. Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri, code named ATM, has earlier committed the state government on the N30, 000 minimum wage, which he conceived, would not be impossible to redeem considering the allocations from federal government and the internally generated revenues.
The just before and after, election employments of workers by the Bindow led, humiliated by defeat government, faced seeming radical criticisms, said to be championed by the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress Adamawa state.
“The recent rather insensitive employments embarked upon by governor Bindow, suggested how inhuman his government was by suspending the salaries of the primary healthcare and LGA workers for as minimum as six months in addition to the refusal to redeem gratuity, pensions and leave grants for about three years in spite of the bailouts and Paris club refund funds, added up to the subventions, allocations and the improved internationally generated revenues.
“Why were the employments not done before this time?” A labour union official who would rather prefer to have his identity concealed, lamented.
Another political analyst perceived a machinated conspiracy against, with a view to making it difficult for the incoming government to be in romance, for industrial harmony, with the civil servants in the state.
