MD FMC Yola Bags Friend Of Nurses Award, NANNM Rewards Retired Nurses

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwifery NANNM FMC Yola, cebrebrated the retirement of their members with gift items.
Having attained thirty-five years in service, which is the benchmark for retirement, thirteen number of NANNM members with FMC Yola, covering the period from 2017 to June 2019, were being organised a send-off ceremony, honoured by the presence of the association’s national and state leadership, led by comrade Lami Aminu, the NANNM state chairman.
A minute silence was however observed in honour of late Gambo Elias who would have been among the, but has finally retired to great beyond permanently, predating the present occasion.

Speaking on behalf of the celebrated retirees, Yakubu Hardison commended the leadership of NANNM, the Assistant Director Nursing Services FMC Yola, the organisers of the send-off ceremony and the Medical Director, with the management staff of FMC Yola.
Hardison said but with the intervention initiative of Prof. Auwal, the unprepared to retire staff, would have had it tough especially, with the delay in the payment of pension and gratuity.
The occasion recognised the support and contributions of Prof. Auwal Muhammad Abubakar, the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Yola, to the capacity development of the nurses for efficient and effective service delivery to humanity and the progress of nursing as a profession by honouring him with the “Friend of Nurses Award”.
Presenting the award, the chairman of the occasion, Malam Abubakar Salihu Gurin, popularly called Sadique, a Permanent Secretary doubling as Provost of the College of Nursing and Midwifery Yola said, it was indeed a deserved honour to an achiever who tried all he could to upgrade the professionalization of the nursing and midwifery by establishing perioperative and other post basic nursing trainings in collaboration with the management of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Yola.
Represented by Dr. Yarima Suleiman Yusuf the Deputy Head of Clinical Services FMC Yola, Prof. Auwal thanked the leadership of NANNM and the entire Nurses and midwives in FMC for the somewhat surprised honour.
Prof. Auwal said the successes recorded in the health facility, were indeed collective undertaking, understanding the spirit behind teamwork.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Assistant Director Nursing Services FMC Yola, Hajiya Fadimatu Umar, having thanked the medical director with the management for the support extended to the nurses to ensure effective and efficient service delivery; such as sponsoring knowledge upgrade, establishing perioperative and post basic nursing trainings, upgrading the standard of the nurses stations, offices of the unit in-charges in the admission wards and introducing ward inspection and assessment with a view to awarding the best wards of the month and the best wards of the year.
Fadimatu commended the retired staff for putting their best in service to humanity with integrity and enjoined the serving nurses to take the challenge for success.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Provost college of nursing, the Deputy Head of Clinical services FMC Yola, the state and branch chairmen NANNM, having congratulated the retired nurses, jointly lamented on the inability of the nurses to be engaged in pre-retirement plan and finally, called on the serving nurses to embrace the challenge they ought to have ventured into right from the day they were employed.
