Group trains rural teachers on entreprenuership, pupils on reading, writing using Jolly Phonics

Jolly Phonics is a programme dedicated at getting children to read and write at an early age through fun and multi sensory synthetic phonic method. This means letter sounds is taught as opposed to alphabet.
It is widely regarded as the most effective way of teaching children to read and write in English. It is flexible to implement in any school. It is developed by teachers for teachers.
Maiha Gari Development Group is an offshoot of Maiha Gari Community Development Association. The group saw the need to cement the use of Jolly Phonics not only in their community but in the local Government area, which is left in chaos by the erstwhile sent to the political oblivion digital gaffer.
It is against this backdrop that the community partnered with Universal Learning Solutions Limited, a Non Governmental Organisation headed by Malam Idris Muhammad Saddam a committed individual and the Local Education Authority to ran a refresher training session for all teachers in Maiha Local Government area.
The session was well attended by more than 50 teachers. They were drilled on how letters sound and how to form the sounds to pronounce a word.
Universal Learning Solutions Limited based in Yola, partners with SUBEB in running Jolly Phonics training in almost all the local Government areas of Adamawa State.
Participants interviewed told the Periscope reporter that it was an intervention that would take Maiha to the next level academically.
“Maiha is blessed to have had two governors in Adamawa State. However, the blessing seemed to be a course in disguise; shaming the Maiha’s fame with the neglect and conspiring to cause acrimony and dissension aimed at disintegrating the united community with a view to covering their ineffectiveness and inefficiencies,” a wise one in Maiha would say.
Similarly, It is worthy of note that MDG had in April this year, ran an entrepreneurship training tagged “START UP MAIHA”.
This training was ran specifically for MDG by Malam Fardeen Dodo a senior lecturer with American University of Nigeria AUN, Yola.
Fardeen Dodo teaches undergraduate courses in many areas of entrepreneurship. He organises social ventures and provides business coaching to women, youths, and small business owners from across West Africa.
Fardeen Dodo is a Fellow of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders and a recipient of Commonwealth Scholarship with broad research interests in understanding how entrepreneurship can be effectively used for eliminating poverty and promoting freedom, prosperity, and equal opportunity in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In running Start up Maiha, Fardeen Dodo explained that the workshop was geared towards giving aspiring entrepreneurs from Maiha the motivation and initial direction in creating social impact start ups.
The workshop, Fardeen Dodo further said, was aimed to inspire the participants by brewing innovative ideas, creating solutions to everyday problems and making business out of it.
More than 100 participants attended this event, which took place in April 2019 at Maiha.
