Taraba: NDLEA arrests 171, impounds 677kg of illicit drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) maintained that war against drug abuse caould only be won through inclusive and accountable institution of criminal justice, health and social services.

This was one of the prominent issues of discuss at a press briefing by the NDLEA Taraba state Command held in Jalingo, the state capital.

State Acting Commandant Peter Odaudu said the command has yielded modest success in it’s war against drugs abuse, as it has mpounded over 677 kilogrammes of illicit drugs in the State between 2018 and 2019.

Odaudu explained that 171suspects were arrested within the same period for drug abuse related offences, adding that some of them were convicted, while others were rehabilitated and integrated back to the society.

Recalled that the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit drugs trafficking was marked last week with the theme”Health for Justice, Justice For Health”.

The theme called for drug abuse victims to be seen by the society as patients requiring medical attention rather than being subjected of dehumanisation
