Kano 2919; Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Thursday Update

The Honourable Tribunal presided by its chairman Justice Halima Shamaki Muhammad has adjourned the sitting to 19th of August 2019.

In today’s sitting, counsel to Engr Abba K Yusuf and the PDP Barr. MK Umar has closed the fourteen days long presentation of evidence and oral witnesses as granted by the honourable Tribunal.

As at today, the petitioners have presented 34 witnesses and 4,020 documents of exhibits against the declaration of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as Kano State Governor in March, 2019.

The defense Counsel of Ganduje, APC and INEC are expected to commence presentation of their witnesses from the 19th of August, 2019 which from that day, the tribunal will only have 50 days to deliver its judgement.

The presiding judge, Justice Halima Shamaki, has warned that the tribunal would not accommodate delay tactics from the respondents.

As at today, the Tribunal has maximum of 61 days to deliver judgment on the suit against the unlawful declaration of Ganduje as Kano State Governor in March, 2019.
