Prof Ribadu Led NUC Visitation Team Visits MAUTECH, FMC Yola For Medical College, Teaching Hospital

Responding to the popular call by the allied elites of Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria, to have a medical college established in Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola and to have Federal Medical Centre FMC Yola upgraded to a teaching hospital; the demand the Adamawa elites led by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri presented to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House some months previously, the National University Commission NUC has constituted a committee to look into the possibility of actualising the communal call.

Either to add “Science” clause to the the name of the the institution that is purely technology based to read “Modibbo Adama University of Science and Technology, to be able to accommodate medical college or to generally conventionalize the institution to accommodate business managerial and art courses added to the medical college.

The NUC constituted committee led by the former FUT Yola VC Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu Monday, visited Modibbo Adama University of Technology MAUTECH Yola for facility assessment. They were received by Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur the Vice Chancellor MAUTECH who is also a member of the NUC visitation team.

“The visitation team are still in MAUTECH, going round assessing facilities,” an informant would tell the Periscope.

The Prof Ribadu led visitation team, the Periscope investigation can reveal, will pay courtesy calls on the Governor of Adamawa and HRH the Lamido Adamawa Monday, when they are through with MAUTECH Yola.

“The team will pay a similar facility assessment tour to FMC Yola tomorrow being Tuesday, an informant close to a visitation team member would tell the Periscope.

Among the members of the visitation team include, Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed BINANI representing Adamawa Senatorial Zone, Sen Binos Yaroe of Adamawa Southern Senatorial Zone also representing the Senate President and Prof. Auwal Muhammad Abubakar the Medical Director FMC Yola, among others.

It could be recalled that Sen Binani it was, who started championing the course for upgrading Federal Medical Centre FMC, Yola to teaching hospital way back as a Member House of Representative. she was however not to benefit from the support by the elites who would not embrace the idea.

The unrelenting Binani reinvigorated the call, this time with full force as a senator and this time, she is enlisted to enjoy the elites’ support to the course.

On two occasions HRH Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, publicly requested President Muhammadu Buhari to approve the upgrading of FMC Yola to teaching hospital and to have a medical college established in Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola in addition to actualising the Chochi irrigation farming.

Prof. Auwal Muhammad Abubakar has been able to take FMC Yola to the next clinical level having gained partial accreditation from the West Africa College of Surgeons and the West African College of Physicians for postgraduate (residency) training in four departments; Surgery, Anaesthetic, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Internal Medicine, which were started over one year.

The Periscope investigation can reveal that other departments of the health facility, are equally ready for the accreditation by the regulatory bodies to start postgraduate training.
