Adamawa: Gunmen Re-kidnap Prof Zata, kill Brother

Gunmen have re- kidnapped Prof. Adamu Zata of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) Yola, Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria, after killing his brother Saidu Ibrahim 49, who visited him from the village on Sunday, family source said.

The ugly incident was reported to have occurred in the early hours of Monday

Zata, the Periscope investigation can reveal, has earlier complained of having sleepless night and has decided to have a change of scene, away from the state.

Having requested, the university authority was said to have granted him a sabbatical leave that would last for one year.

Zata could have been in Yola for a weekend from Federal University Kashere, Gombe state where he currently doing his sabbatical.

The kidnapping could not be unconnected with an insider conspiracy, an anonymous community member would share his suspicion with the Periscope crime scene reporter.

“The kidnappers could be targeting the additional sabbatical allowance enjoyed by Prof Adamu Zata,” the community member would say.

It could be recalled that Zata was once abducted sometimes in October last year after having said to have negotiated for the release of sister-in-law from captivity among other settlements.

Zata’s family was reported to have redeemed a negotiated ransom of N2m for the university don to regain his freedom.

The kidnappers were said to have invaded Zata’s residence located at Unguwan Yungur at the headquarters of Girei Local Government Area, less than a kilometre to Girei Divisional Police Station.

The News Platform revealed that about 4 weeks ago, unidentified gunmen were alleged to have killed a popular businessman and philanthropist Alh. Mohammed Sajoh Usman Wuro Dole.

Alh. Sajoh, was murdered by the gunmen shortly after performing night prayers at his filling station , M. S. Usman, at Tasha Maiturare, which was about a kilometer to Professor Zata’s residence.

Confirming, the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the incident took place at about 2:00am, and that already the commissioner of Police has deployed his men to apprehend the kidnappers.

Nguroje, said that the corpse of the casualty has since been taken to specialists hospital Yola, for autopsy
