The accreditation panel from West African College of Surgeons WACS, visited Federal Medical Centre FMC Yola for the accreditation of the Radiology Department on Monday, December 16, 2019.
Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo the Chief Medical Director, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital UMTH, Borno state, former secretary National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria Faculty of Radiology, was the chairman of the accreditation Panel.
Prof. Kabiru Isyaku of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital AKTH the current Secretary of the West African College of Surgeons, was at the same time the secretary of the accreditation panel and Dr. Olatunji Olubunmi of the National Hospital Abuja; a lady with radiology foresight, was a member.
The panel, having registered her appreciation for the hospitality rendered to members and the cooperation of the management of the hospital based on non interference in the exercise, commended the human relations, the teamwork and the cleanliness of the environment.
Prof. Ahidjo while presenting the findings and recommendations of the panel to the management of FMC Yola, said the panel has assessed the human resources and the capacity of the equipments.
The panel was satisfied with the staff personnel; the consultants were above the minimum number required to run postgraduate training in Radiology. The house officers soon to be called resident doctors, were already on ground and have since been on training.
The panel was surprised to see the levels of equipments in the hospital. Prof. Ahidjo was the first person to use some of the equipments as a visiting consultant to the medical facility in 2016. It was surprising to see the upgraded versions of the previous equipments. “FMC Yola is indeed in tune in an improved technology”.
The panel felt cool good, the collaboration between FMC Yola and the Adamawa-German Medical Centre, Yola, the symbiotic relationship depicting the cordial relationship between the state government and the federal health facility.
“The arrangement to produce desired result is concrete; Adamawa-German Medical Centre has some of the equipments and FMC Yola has the human resources.
The rural posting was an additional fillip to the diadem of achievements resulting from the collaborative efforts between FMC Yola and Adamawa state government. The medical outreaches in Jada and Hong cottage hospitals have made impressive marks.
Space utilisation was excellent; offices, call duty rooms, common rooms, patients waiting area and so on all within a complex defined the standard.
The panel was impressed by the quality of the ongoing projects in the Centre, one of which was an extension of the radiology department.
The internet facility in the hospital was observed to be effective, equipments were digitalised and the e-library was solid.
The radiology safety committee was noted as good initiative and the interdepartmental programmes were observed to be in place for academic purposes. The radiology revolving fund was equally excellent.
In his closing remarks, Prof Auwal Mohammed Abubakar, the Medical Director FMC Yola, thanked the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Faculty of Radiology for accepting to visit the hospital for the accreditation exercise.
Auwal thanked the accreditation panel for for the free, fair and credible exercise, assuring that the recommendations would be positively looked into and the health facility would offer nothing short of excellent postgraduate training.
