FMC Yola’s Pioneer Postgraduate Peri operative Nurses score 96.4%

The pioneer postgraduate peri operative students of the Federal Medical Centre FMC Yola have graduated with distinction.

The Periscope has in 2019 reported that FMC Yola has established a post basic training in peri operative nursing as was revealed by the Medical Director Prof. Auwal Muhammad Abubakar.

The programme was started with 29 candidates. Mr. Anthony Mbsle is the coordinator of the school. He disclosed that the candidates admitted were critically drilled with peri operative nursing skills enough to render effective and efficient services in any surgical theatre the world could get to offer, having passed through qualified tutors.

Mbale said that the excellent performance in the peri operative examinations conducted by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria NMCN did not come to him as a surprise.

“Our students were adequately prepared for the NMCN post basic peri operative examinations. You can see that the results have justified our pride. The pioneer products have made us proud; of the twenty nine candidates admitted, only one failed the examination,” Mbale said.

Presenting the examination results to Prof. Auwal MD FMC Yola, Mbale, accompanied by the Assistant Director Nursing Services FMC Yola Hajiya Fadimatu Umar, revealed that the graduated students scored 96.4%.

Mbale commended the medical director for the total support and cooperation; ensuring that the school attained a leading status in the country.

Responding, having thanked the NMCN for the accreditation of the post basic peri operative nursing programme in FMC Yola, Prof. Auwal commended the pioneer students for their commitment and dedication to studies.

Prof. Auwal also commended the coordinator and the facilitators for their sacrifice and selfless service, assuring the school of continued support.

Earlier, Prof. Auwal was conferred with the the Best Administrator Award, in a graduation ceremony organised by the pioneer post basic perio perative students. The award was presented to him by AmbP Michael Manasseh Hon. Commissioner Public Complaint Commission as the chairman of the occasion.

AmbP Manasseh who retired as head of theatre FMC Yola, is one of the mentees of Prof Auwal.

Manasseh is a Peace Ambassador with the United Narions-POLAC, admitted in December, 2019.

The coordinator and the instructors of the post basic peri operative school were among those that received recognition award during the graduation ceremony.

Other recipients were the Head of Nursing Services, the theatre manager and the CSSD manager, FMC Yola.

FMC Yola and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital UMTH are the only health institutions in the entire northern Nigeria that run post basic peri operative training and among the the six in the entire country with those established in Lagos, Enugu, Ife and Benin.
