The Vice Chancellor Modibbo Adama University of Technology MAUTECH Yola, Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur would appoint a provost for the medical college of the institution

This is sequel to the letter from the office of the executive Secretary National Universities Commission (N U C), Prof Abubakar Rasheed, addressed to the VC MAUTECH, Yola, granting approval for the university to commence admission of students into Medicine and Surgery undergraduate programme in the 2020/2021 academic session.

In a press release signed by the information officer of the institution, Malam Aminu Gurumpawo, the university has designated the newly completed central laboratories as well as a complex to serve as offices and lecture theatres for the medical college in fulfilment of the requirements of the NUC; to provide adequate human and material resources for the development and growth of the approved programme.

The highly celebrated news of the approval of the medical college by the University community and stakeholders in the education sector in Adamawa and other states within the university’s catchment areas, Gurumpawo explained, came “at a time the institution anxiously awaits the passage of the bill for its conversion from a science and technology specialised Institution  to a multidisciplinary Institution that would liberalise the space allowing it to diversify into courses in arts and humanities, social sciences as well as law that were desperately in demand to address the low human development index of the North East subregion.

“Recall that the bill for the conversion is currently before the House of Representatives for concurrence following its passage into law by the Nigerian Senate on 18th December 2019.”
