Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has saluted Muslims in the state as they joined other faithful across the world to commence the Ramadan fast.

In a press release Friday, signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor said Ramadan is one of the Holy Months in the Islamic lunar calendar. It is also one of the five pillars of Islam that encouraged sacrifice and devotion while fasting.

“It is an opportunity for Muslims to purify their body, mind, heart and spirit from fasting and praying to Almighty Allah.

“While describing this year’s spiritual exercise as Ramadan at home, Fintiri regretted that it presented the challenge of COVID-19 as some practices during the period may not be experienced.

“He urged the faithful to remain in their homes keeping safe, ensuring social distancing and proper hygiene.

Fintiri admonished Muslims “to see the period as a time to renew and strengthen their faith through rigorous fasting, devotional prayers, reflective meditation, reading the Quran and charitable deeds at this critical time.”

While wishing the Ummah a peaceful and blessed Ramadan, Fintiri said events of the past weeks have proven that prayer was a necessity in overcoming challenges of the times.

“I believe we shall find peace, comfort and reassurance in our faith. We as a people must not be broken as this health challenge shall also come to pass. Ramadan Kareem!” Fintiri greeted.
