COVID-19: FMC Yola Produces Face Shield For Staff

 The Periscope reporter

Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola, has produced face shields for the entire members of staff manning the essential service windows as a preventive measure against the spread of Coronavirus.

Responding to the Newsmen, Dr Yunusa M Dahiru, Consultant Radiologist and head of Radiology Department FMC Yola explained that the making of the prototype face shieds was a product of thinking outside the box.

“Considering the fact that even the developed world; the providers of the medical facilities, do not have enough to contain the pandemic, we therefore, as an alternative, thought of looking inward for an improvised medical consumables, using local materials within the environment, to be used in protecting health workers while on duty within the hospital, in consideration of the cost effectiveness as well.

The radiology department then forwarded the proposals to the management of FMC Yola and the Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar without much ado, gave a go ahead for the production of the face shields you are now seeing, just as he gave earlier approvals for the production of hand sanitizers and face mask among others,” Dr. Yunusa said.

Dr. Yunusa disclosed that “plan is on the way for the hospital to produce other hospital consumables before the ones we have in the hospital could get to be exhausted.”

“We’ve also advised other hospitals within the state to key in to the initiative with a view to producing their PPE locally.

It could be recalled that the Periscope has reported FMC Yola as being among the first tertiary healthcare institutions that produced owned hand sanitizers and face masks made of fabric.

Investigation by NTA, the Periscope Global Publishers, Fack-Check news, Daily Hints, The Gazette and TGNews among other media also revealed FMC Yola’s uncompromising enforcement and total compliance to “No Face Mask No Entry” into the hospital.
