Having realised what the ministry of health heartily submitted as her mistake; shortchanging most of the members of the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, of the COVID-19 hazard areas, with a view to avert industrial action, it was thought that the arrears for the two months shortchanged would be paid without delay, when the dateline for the compilation of names of the shortchanged was made and forwarded without delay as directed.
The delay in the payments of the outstanding 40% and the remaining third month is breeding insinuations that the health workers are simply played the Pele by being dribbled away from downing tools.
The JOHESU leadership, hitherto hit left, right and centre, with the allegation of complicity to conspiracy in the seeming COVID-gate, with the parent ministry and that which would have resulted to the agitation for the vote of no confidence, is having a stressful and sleepless night, because her members are groaning, since they could not snore in their stressful and sleeplessness in anticipation of the outstanding shortchanged allowance.
Comrade Joy Josiah Biobelemoye is the restless and sleepless National Chairman of the JOHESU.
Josiah is without joy, while raising the JOHESU grievances on Friday in Abuja, when he met with Hon. Yusuf Tanko, Chairman House Committee on Healthcare Services.
Josiah has not found anything persuasive in the government planning palliative measures for private school proprietors, when health workers who have been in the forefront of containing the virus are owed salaries and other fringe benefits.
Josiah has however expressed hope that the lawmakers would intervene and with joy, enjoined the JOHESU members to continue to be patient and have confidence in the lawmakers’ intervention.
“The Ninth Assembly is focused in ensuring there is constructive engagement between the legislature and the health careservice providers, including other stakeholders so that there will be harmony,” Josiah said.
