The Upper Area Court, sitting in Yola, Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria, has summoned Idi Usman Shehu and three others to answer charges of criminal conspiracy and inciting disturbances for anarchy that have resulted in hurting so many hearts with others sustaining degrees of injuries in Jalingo-Maiha on a Friday, during Jumu’at prayer.
Idi and three others are summoned to appear in person, on Monday, September, 14, 2020 to answer the criminal charges filed against them by the Commissioner of Police.
There have been court hearings on the case, which make people in Jalingo-Maiha to pray for the possibility of passing judgement tomorrow being Monday.
Idi was appointed by former governor Bindow as district head of Jalingo-Maiha against the recommended candidate submitted by the Mubi Emirate Council.
The people of Jalingo-Maiha district vehemently rejected the Bindow’s rather coercive appointment and in a peaceful manner, the Emirate Council selected and recommended to the governor for approval, registered his grievances before the law that eventually favoured his prayers.
A Yola high court had squashed the Bindow’s illegal appointment of the illegitimate candidate in a declarative judgement. Bindow was however not to honour the court order, which a sage explained, formed part of the nemesis that resulted in the humiliating defeat of Bindow as sitting governor at the poll; in fact, the first in the political history of Adamawa state.
Though Bindow as governor, being the first defendant would not challenge the court judgement, overambitious Idi the third defendant conceived a meaning in filing an appeal against the ruling that dethroned him, while he continued his romance with the contempt of court order, which degenerated into inciting violence against peaceful worshippers in a mosque during Friday prayers; defining the reign of horrific terror.
Everything is now at ease as Jalingo-Maiha is now in peace with the suspension of Idi and banning him from Maiha by the Adamawa state Governor and the appointment of the acting district head, by the Mubi Emirate Council, who while addressing the celebrating peace loving people in Maiha, said his task was to hand over the legitimate district head that the appeal court would determine in no distant future.
