Adamawa State House of Assembly has commenced investigation as to why some courses in the College of Administration and Business Studies (CABS), Numan campus were delisted against provisions of the laws establishing the institution.

The assembly’s standing committee on education and tertiary institutions was charged with the assignment.

The assembly directed that all the courses transferred from the Numan Campus should be restituted to the campus with immediate effect.

The assembly directed that Numan Campus should be compensated by citing the projects of the state government and that of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in the campus.

The resolutions followed a matter of urgent public importance sponsored by the deputy speaker and member representing Numan constituency, Rt. Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo (PDP), during Wednesday’s plenary.

Mackondo has while moving the motion, lamented that CABS, Numan campus was shortchanged of its courses, the action considered as a total violation of the law establishing the polytechnic.

Mackondo explained that established in 1996, the state polytechnic was divided into 4 colleges with CABS cited in Numan so as to take the place of Staff Development Institute (SDI).

Mackondo pointed out that the law establishing the institution has not been amended to reflect the new status of Yola and Numan campuses. He could not therefore see any reason behind delisting of courses, saying something urgent must be done by the house to save the situation.

Mackondo said that it was disheartening to discover that the TETFUND projects meant for CABS Numan were diverted to Yola campus.

Mackondo has debunked the claim that the land in Numan was not suitable for TETFUND projects, where he argued that some of the structures in Human Campus have been there for over 45 years.

Mackondo argued that CABS was the only fully operational campus in the whole of southern senatorial district of the state that comprised 9 local government areas and that the education and economic importance of the institution in the area could not be overemphasised.

Mackondo stated that the college has also created employment opportunities for their electorates such as business centres, estate development, trading and host of others, adding that its proximity has also encouraged enrollment of teeming youths.

Hon. Japhet Kefas (Gombi), Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa) and Hon. Abubakar Isa (Shelleng) have joint legislative force with Mackondo on the motion, which eventually enjoyed overwhelming supported.

After the debate and subsequent adoption of the resolutions, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the sitting, directed that the resolutions be communicated to the authorities concern.
