MD Flags Off Vaccination Against Covid-19 In FMC Yola

The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola, Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria, Prof. Auwal Muhammad Abubakar has flagged off vaccination against Covid-19 in the health facility.

Prof Auwal Monday, commended the federal government for providing the Covid-19 vaccines.

Prof Auwal explained that the exercise would begin with the frontline staff, to be followed by the clinical staff then the staff with the department of Administration.

“The vaccines will cover the entire staff of the Hospital who want to be immunised against the Coronavirus. It is optional, not compulsory,” he said.

Asked to access the level of compliance with the immunisation, Prof Auwal said it would be too early to grade the level of compliance since the exercise has just started. He has however commended the conduct of the exercise.

According to Prof Auwal, the vaccination exercise would last for 10 days.

Mr. Amos Ibrahim, a local government facilitator with the World Health Organisation was the lead coordinator of the exercise. He was impressed with the support and cooperation in ensuring the success of the exercise. He commended the management and staff with the department of public health of FMC Yola.

Dr. Joel Yohanna the head of clinical services of the health facility was the first to receive the vaccine during the flagging off. He said that “there is nothing to be afraid of. The vaccine is safe”.
