FG to freeze bank accounts of DStv, GOtv over N1.8 trillion tax debt

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it has initiated a process to freeze the accounts of MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv over N1.8 trillion tax debt.

Explaining the decision, the Federal Government through the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) said in a statement issued by Abdullahi Ahmad, Director, Communications and Liaison Department of FIRS in Abuja on Thursday, that it had engaged banks as agents to freeze and recover N1.8 trillion from accounts of MultiChoice Nigeria Limited (MCN) And MultiChoice Africa (MCA).

FIRS explained that the decision to appoint the banks as agents and freeze the accounts was due to MultiChoice’s continued refusal to grant FIRS access to their servers for audit.

The agency said it discovered that the companies persistently breached all agreements and undertakings.
