The beauty, the tidiness and cleanliness of the hospital environment can not escape commendation from and by any visitor to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria.

A visitor once remarked that “the tidiness of your hospital, is to say the least, intimidating. It has been consistent since establishment. What a spirit and the philosophy of continuity in leadership!”

High powered accreditation team from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has visited the health facility.

The visit was mainly to have the Paediatrics department of the hospital accredited.

It was the last activity just before the public holiday, marking the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

The accreditation team was led by a Professor of Paediatrics from University of Jos, Plateau state, Prof Selina Nnuaku Okolo

The team has commended the health facility for maintaining a tidy and cleaned environment.

The team was satisfied with the facility for rural posting in Jada and Hong local governments cottage hospitals.

The team was impressed with the workforce at the paediatrics department, some of whom are young and dedicated consultants.

The Emergency Paediatric Unit EPU, was given excellent assessment, having noted the hi-tech equipment that are properly put in place, in addition to the offices accommodation, the e-library and e-medical record, which started, effectively and efficiently too, with the National Health Insurance NHIS service window.

The team was also impressed with cordiality between and among the members of staff of the hospital that made it possible to cultivate the spirit of teamwork, exemplified first by the representations at dinner organised in honour of the team and at the course of the accreditation exercise.

On the whole, the team remarked that “this young institution, in terms of things needed for training, has really stand out; new equipment, improved skills.

What was fascinating was the activities of the Hospital Paupers Fund, established to source for funds to be able to foot the medical bills of the in-patients in FMC Yola and incidentally, the beneficiares are mostly the indigent paediatric patients.

In his remarks, the Medical Director of the Centre, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar, thanked the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria for honouring the invitation, and commended the accreditation team for meticulous exercise.
