Discordant voices that followed the ratification of the expulsion of the APC Caretaker Chairman of Yola South Local Government, Central Senatorial District of Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria, Sulaiman Adamu, by the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress, suggested a sympathy – though not support – for what Yunusa Abubakar the literary critic could consider as biased treatment.
The literary critic would articulate a rather non romantic view that it was not on a pulpit nor at a public gathering or lecture presentation, it was at a meeting, said to be aimed at mending cracked wall, with the convener as the Chair who ought to moderate emotions from going out of proportion for the sake of unity by means of reconciliation issued Coronavirus attack wish on the President he claimed to have abandoned them after having exhausted their hard earned fortune to make him a President.
The conversations for the most part, by separate groups in Yola, suggested that Suleimam Adamu should not have been singled out for the expulsion because he was not the only person rather speaking to himself at the meeting and that there was no any voice heard mediating the insult and death wish on the President
“Whencthe foul-mouthed was shooting the President with his Covid-19 ounce of venom no participant at the meeting was heard shutting him down or shouted him down. This has literarily signifies collective, collaborative collateral concord,”
Anonymous politician pointed out that “if there was a secretary to issue a communique the insult and death wish on the President would have been part of the observations resolutions and recommendations. It was therefore a collective cross that shouldn’t be solely shouldered on a lone soul”.
Another group in conversation suggested that even if not expulsion as a punishment for a foul language meeting, other members ought to be temporarily suspended after having made to be publicly apologised for holding a meeting that resulted to the unfortunate incident.
NEON tried in vain to hear from the Adamawa State leadership of the APC
The expulsion contained in a statement titled, “APC Expels Yola South LGA Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu,” signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, in Abuja, and widely reported on Thursday was with immediate effect.
According to Akpanudoedehe, “the CECPC received and deliberated on the report of his infractions and recommendations of the seven-member disciplinary committee set up by the Adamawa State Working Committee to investigate the offences committed by Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu against the interest of the party.
“Recall the viral video in which Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu made unwholesome utterances on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Leader of the Party.
“He was also found guilty of bringing the image of the party to disrepute, thereby creating doubt on his leadership quality and loyalty to the party.
“The CECPC calls on party members to always demonstrate self-discipline and restraint by desisting from acts and utterances that are inimical to the interest of the party”.
