There’s No Sex Scandal, Other Malpractices In College Of Nursing

* The Crime Lies In The Wedding Invitation Card – Provost

The Periscope Reporter

Is it a lamentation song to grass, for a tertiary health institution that has steadily grown from grass to grace? Or “it is a mere mischief contracted to a misfit media by a malicious, immoral minded to malign?” A rather weighty, libellous allegation!

College of Nursing and Midwifery Yola, Adamawa state, Northeast Nigeria, has in 2019, for the first time in 41 years, got full accreditation for the Nursing Programme, as well as for the first time the college would score 100% in all the courses respectively; Basic Nursing, Refresher and Post Basic Nursing Programmes.

The Periscope investigation published in 2019, has revealed that the former Provost, Malam Abubakar Salihu Gurin, simply called Sadique, has in 2012 met the college in her terribly discouraging academic state, with the examination results of 28% in Midwifery and 42% in Nursing, respectively.

While the successes achieved are being celebrated and the current management of the college has taken the challenge to move with the milestone and improved a million miles further, she has revealed, the anonymously aggrieved, rather discordant voices, taken advantage of a situation, have accused the management of keeping silent to the sex scandal, examination malpractice and admission racketeering.

Following the allegation, The Periscope Reporter visited the college for an in-depth investigation. Having heard from the across section of students lecturers and some non teaching staff of the college, the Provost’s office was made the last point of call.

Some members of staff interviewed disclosed to the Periscope that it wasn’t much of a sex scandal as the online news media has insinuated.

The culprit, the respondents revealed was the wedding invitation card; the loverboy lecturer was said to have broke up with the girlfriend-student he earlier indicated interest to marry, having realised each other’s weaknesses, should they go till death would they part each other’s unpleasant path.

The loverboy has eventually found another sweet heart he heartily considered more suitable for the till death is the parting pact and has made it public by means of invitation card.

Disturbed by the wedding IV card, the girlfriend-student cried a frustrating fault, claimed being sexually assaulted, which caused her stomach ache, she could have suspected being pregnant enough to have nailed the slippery loverboy.

The attention seeking matter was reported to the college management that has been proactive in channelling it to the disciplinary committee for further investigation and recommendations.

Results were negative, as all the laboratory investigations has neither the pregnancy nor any disease detected.

The three-member investigation committee chaired by the Deputy Provost Nursing, which has the Deputy Provost Midwifery as member and the Students’ Affairs Officer as Secretary has reported her findings thus:

* Both the loverboy lecturer Birgamus Kadama and girlfriend-student Sarah Usman Yakubu are agreed that they have been in intimate kind of carnal relationship for a period of about three months.

* The relationship could not lead to marriage as earlier arrenged owing to misunderstanding

* Laboratory investigations came out negative.

The Committe observed that the relationship was elicited by the loverboy lecturer who manipulated his way to teach in a classroom he was not allocated to and has requested the students to see him personally should they be needing academic assistance.

The committee has therefore recommended that the loverboy lecturer should be suspended indefinitely from all academic activities with immediate effect.

And that the Deputy Provost Nursing should post on the CONMU platform regarding the suspension of the loverboy lecturer from all academic activities, including the discontinuing of supervision of students undergoing projects.

Members of staff of the college wondered where did TG News source his “investigation” that alleged that “during one of the meetings by the disciplinary committee under the chairmanship of one Mallam Abubakar Hamman TG NEWS gathered had the provost in attendance, Kadamas tongue-lashed the committee over his invitation to clear the allegations against his sexual involvement with one Sarah Yakubu and the provost couldn’t chastise him or halt him from calling the committee members all sort of unprintable names”.

According to the staff “Mallam Abubakar Hamman is not even a member of a disciplinary committee not to talk of being a chairman of the committee. The Provost has also never attended the meeting.

Mrs. Lami Aminu is the provost, College of Nursing and Midwifery, Yola.

“Some people have shared a link with me. What some people who kept calling, feeling me to be strong, considered as libellous allegations was unreasonable to me, as it was poorly written by unserious, poorly trained blogger that I could not conjure up or decipher the content to have reflected contextually on the multiple, disjointed, devoid of cohesion and coherance message.

“But since you said the issue of sex scandal was raised and you want to know the action taken by the management, then I should have to respond,” the Provost said.

The Provost revealed that the management was proactive in constituting a disciplinary committee to investigate the reported sex scandal and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken against the offender(s)

The committee, Lami explained, was given two weeks within which to report her finding.

However, instead of submitting report, after more than one month, the chairman of the investigation committee, Ibrahim Yakubu Gomb forwarded a request seeking for the replacement some of the disciplinary committee members, that the committee’s one year tenure has expired; that a member of the committee has left the college having been elevated Permanent Secretary and that the appointed secretary of the committee “seems not to be interested in the assignment”.

The management has however insisted that the committee must accomplish her assignment.

“How can I or the management frustrate investigation? Mind you the lecturer in question has since been on suspension,” the Provost said.

On the alleged examination malpractice and admission racketeering, the gold teeth, smiley Lami Amin would lament that “the smear simply smelt to to high heaven.

“Examination malpractice is intolerable in the college. Mind you, the examinations and the examiners are entirely external, how possible can I use Birgamus Kadama for examination malpractice as a Provost? This is ridiculous.

On the allegation that “in audio evidence at the disposal of TG NEWS also accused Birgamus of admission racketeering, collecting 150,000, to 300,000 naira for a particular admission letter. This is an issue this medium understood is making headway in the institution that admissions are only for the cash and carry not for the deserved”, Lami lamented that “aren’t three accusations so heavy for an individual to shoulder? The sex scandal, the exams malpractices and the admission racketeering?

“How do we maintain standard to be able to make 100% in the general examinations and the college programmes projected for HND, to be actualised?” The Provost asked.

To be continued.
