Muslim Council Lambasts Gov Ishaku Over Muslims Marginalisation In Taraba

Taraba State Muslim Council has on Friday expressed dismay over what the Council considered as uncontrolled unconscious bias depicted by the systematic purging of Muslims at all levels of governance and civil service in the state by Darius Ishaku led administration.

This is contained in a text jointly signed by the Acting Chairman of the Council, Kadi Abdulmumin Abubakar (Rtd) and the Secretary, Alh. Chindo Bose.

The text alleging Muslim alienation was read by the Secretary at a press conference held at the secretariat of the Council in Jalingo the state capital of the state.

The Council disclosed that it has been resisting adding its voice to public discourse about the insidious marginalization of the Muslim Ummah in the state by the Darius administration. it is however left with no option than to voice out the grievance for moral redress lest the condition gets out of hand.

The Council pointed out that the call has become necessary as all efforts made by the Council to see that Darius led government corrects the wrongs to no avail.

The Council explained that the renowned Muslim organization, MURIC drew the attention of the Government to redress the issue, pointing out that all exclusive tactics of governance can only breed hatred, disunity, instability as well as lack of peace, and suspicious coexistence.

The Council expressed disappointment with the recent unfair appointment of Permanent Secretaries by the governor in which there was no Muslim out of the twelve appointed despite the presence of many and very senior directors among the Muslim civil servants who are sufficiently qualified for the positions.

According to the Council, laid down procedures for employment are no longer followed in Taraba State, revealing that presently, no Muslim heads any of the three arms of Government in the state that comprises the Head of Service, the SSG, and the Chief of Staff.

The Council expressed concern none of the state-owned tertiary institutions, including media houses is headed by Muslim, adding that among the 25 Commissioners, only 7 are Muslims.

Furthermore, out of the 221 Special Advisers, only 54 are Muslims while among the 23 heads of boards and parastatals, only 5 are Muslims.

“Unlike the current unjust situation, key appointments were given by the previous administrations in the state on virtually equal ratios between the Muslims and Christians and at times, the Muslims even received a larger portion of the appointments owing to their indisputable conspicuous population in the state”. The Council alleged.

The Council called on the Governor of injustice with impunity, to make his administration an all inclusive one against running a government with nepotism and ethno-religeous bigotry, while the leader of the Council, Rtd. Kadi Abdulmumin Abubakar called on those he described as their Abuja brothers to rise to their responsibilities as Muslims against abuse of state character based on faith with impunity.
