It was our colleague and brother, Dr. Abdullahi Bashir, whose Facebook post reminded us of an achiever’s one year anniversary.
“Just like yesterday, you are one year in the driving seat at MAUTech Yola. Lots of progress achieved within a short span despite the challenges.
“Congratulations Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur on your first anniversary as VC,” Dr. Bashir wrote and so many people inclined to progress and development joined in congratulating.
Some people who are far away from the activities at MAUTech Yola may be pleased to know Prof Tukur’s achievements within one year that are worthy of congratulations. Our colleague and brother, Aminu Gurumpawo the information and protocol officer MAUTech Yola is an excellent achievement-worthy record keeper.
Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur was appointed as the 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of Mautech Yola by the governing council of the institution at its 93rd meeting held on Saturday 27th April 2019.
Prof Tukur’s one year in office has witnessed significant progress and development in the institution. The successes are indeed too numerous to mention.
The institution has got approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the establishment of a medical science college within the institution.
The NUC approval came on the heels of the much awaited conversion of the institution from a specialised university to a conventional one.
The bill was passed by the Nigerian Senate on 18th December 2019 and is awaiting concurrence at the house of representatives.
The move, which enjoyed tremendous support from prominent sons and daughters of Adamawa state both within and outside the legislature, seeks to liberalise the space and allow for studies in medical sciences, law, social sciences as well as arts and humanities.
Training and retraining of staff remains a top priority of Prof Tukur led management at MAUTech Yola; with the appointment of a Tetfund desk officer for the institution, several batches of academic and nonacademic staff of the institution have gained training in their various professional fields to sharpen their skills and enhance productivity. This came alongside the numerous workshops and trainings enjoyed by staff of the university.
Prof Tukur has initiated and seen to the completion of infrastructure projects in MAUTech Yola amongst which are the ultra modern fireservice complex in the campus, road rehabilitation, solar powered panels to replace the conventional electricity supply in powering the water generation and distribution channels.
The quest to instill academic integrity and ensure discipline among staff and students of the institution is the hallmark of Prof Tukur’s administration in MAUTech Yola.
Prof. Tukur was also not to relax in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has ensured that proper hygiene is maintained in the campus; water, soap and hand sanitizers are adequately provided and social distancing is observed in the institution. These are but the mentioned few.
This piece is in commemoration of the achievement of Prof. Abdullahi Liman Tukur within one year in office as Vice Chancellor, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, MAUTech Yola, Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria.
