…Former Governor Nyako is remembered not only for growing the state’s economy and his commitment to expanding the state’s infrastructure during his tenure, but also for his exceptional leadership and direction that are exactly what this generation should try to emulate…
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who hitherto attributed Adamawa state’s backwardness to the inactivities of the past administrations, has vindicated Admiral Murtala Hammanyero Nyako, a.k.a Baba Maimangoro, the former governor, saying he’s “one of the best we’ve had”.
Fintiri declared this in a press release Sunday, issued by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, while extending his warmest felicitations to the former governor on the occasion of his 79th birthday, described the septuagenarian as a quintessential leader and passionate lover of his fatherland.
The “Fresh-Air” governor stated that it was special grace and remarkable feat for the former governor to attain the enviable age of 79, which called for celebration.
“Admiral Murtala Nyako deserves all the celebrations as one of the best we’ve had as a nation to date. He is not only a rare breed but also a symbol of unity, whose life is worthy of emulation by every Nigerian,’’ he said.
“Adamawa takes pride in all your achievements for country and state; you proved to be a statesman who sacrificed alot for the betterment of this nation having distinguished yourself as a fine military officer, democrat and farmer.”
Fintiri commended Baba Maimangoro for his strong belief in the growth and development of Adamawa, saying this had informed his active participation in large scale agriculture-the mainstay of the States economy to ensure the growth of the economy of Adamawa.
While describing the former Naval Chief, former Military Governor of Niger State who was to later become civilian Governor of Adamawa as a true inspiration, Governor Fintiri noted that, “The former Governor served our state and nation with unparalleled dedication, a clear sense of public service to duty.”
The Governor noted that the former chief of Naval staff is remembered not only for growing the state’s economy and his commitment to expanding the state’s infrastructure during his tenure, but also for his exceptional leadership and direction that are exactly what this generation should try to emulate.
“Your Excellency, I wish you God’s continued providence as you celebrate your 80th birthday. Happy and blessed birthday.”
Recall that Governor Fintiri, while giving a robust account of his two years stewardship in 2021, where he scored his administration high “despite financial crunch, COVID-19 scourge and insecurity,” has attributed Adamawa’s backwardness to the activities or inactivities of the past administrations.
