…The Periscope Global Publishers Productivity Award is genuine and objective with the consideration that the award isn’t for sale. A letter of nomination for the Periscope 2021 achievers award was sent to our boss. To our surprise, the award doesn’t attract payment of any amount to access it… NDLEA delegates
The Periscope Global Publishers personality of the week is the anti narcotics tsar, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa.
The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa is picked in the effective and efficient leadership category as an outstanding hero in ridding the country of illicit drugs.
Drug abuse and trafficking are said to be soaring, begging for a hero to get the country out of the labyrinth, Marwa was shouldered with the responsibility for what many would consider a life threatening, herculean assignment.
You could trust his beam of light that illuminated Borno as much as you could recall his legacy in Lagos with “operation sweep”, where he served in both states as military governor.
The staff welfare was among the Marwa’s primary priority, hence the retired and the families of the fallen heroes are not left behind.
Considering the vacancies, Marwa feels the wide margin must be narrowed down with recruitment of the free-from-drugs youth for the new, rather redefined war against illicit drugs.
For political correctness, and soceital reorientation with a view to getting the country free from the lurching intoxicates ready to ride the country to doom destination, Marwa has urged the political parties to include drug test as part of their screening of aspirants on their platforms as well as the appointive officers as much as it must be applied to any recruitment exercise in the country.
“We have advocated and will continue to advocate that drug test be conducted for politicians; some state governments like Kano state is already doing this. Not just politicians, but government appointees.
“And, I have just sent a letter this morning to the National Chairman of APC, who will be the first of the national working committee I wish to pay an advocacy visit on this issue.
“I recommended that drug tests be incorporated in the screening process for all those interested in running for public office. We will do the same to the PDP and other important parties,” Mr Marwa said.
In addressing the complex challenge, Marwa is reported to have embraced a multi-dimensional and holistic approach aimed at “mitigating the harm done by drug use instead of the traditional just-say-no-ism of the previous chief executives.
“The drug tsar has within 17 months led the agency to arrest nearly 18,000 drug offenders, including 10 notorious barons across the country, over 2,369 persons were convicted and jailed and more than 11,000 drug users were counseled and treated, which earned Marwa a lot of commendations and awards of excellence, the most recent of which is the Periscope Global Publishers 2021 achievers award.
The northern senatorial district of Adamawa state, having five local governments referred to as the 5m LGs will not forget to remember the Marwa’s Albarka endowment fund for the children of the financially disadvantaged parents in tertiary institutions.
To end political thuggery is to weed out drugs from the citizenry as we approach the 2023 electioneering atmosphere and the main man Marwa, the narcotics tsar is on his mark, on the march again.
