A Chairman of the House Committee on Army and a Former Adamawa Governorship Aspirant, Honourable Abdulrazak Namdas has said that Nigerians would tender an apology to Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hudu Ari after the court ruling. He stated that this is because the Adamawa REC has the evidence as to why he declared Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a Binani as the winner of the gubernatorial election.
Although Namdas clarified that he’s not saying the REC was right to have pronounced Binani winner in such a manner. He however noted that the REC must have gotten a high intelligence on how there was a compromise in the election. According to him, the office of the REC in a state is the highest electoral office and it’s impossible to say such individual does not have the information on what is happening in its environment.
He said, ”The Adamawa REC has made a sensitive claim that Binani won that election, as far as he is concern as the highest official of INEC from that state. So if you are looking at what transpired, whether his declaration was wrong or right, that is a different thing altogether. But what is it about the claim he has made that Binani has actually won the election?
People need to understand that in trying to create fairness, INEC has deployed officers to assist INEC commissioners to have a free and fair elections. If you get to Yola as an appointee from Abuja, you are not supposed to work in Isolation. You are supposed to work with the INEC commissioner in that state. To say that the highest person in that office does not have information is wrong. Nigerians will apologize to the Adamawa REC after the Court judgment because he has proofs as to why he declared Binani winner. But he got it wrong, he should have done a report to the National Headquarters.”
