Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi, Northeast Nigeria has recorded a significant milestone, with the introduction of an innovative laser surgery programme to treat urological conditions, which was successful launched today, Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
This groundbreaking surgical technique is set to provide advanced care for patients suffering from ailments such as kidney stones, prostate issues, and other urological illnesses.
The inaugural surgery, led by Dr. Evaristus Uzuma Azodoh, a renowned consultant urologist who arrived from the Chiva Specialist Hospital in Abuja, marked a remarkable moment for ATBUTH. The procedure, which lasted approximately one hour, was a resounding success, despite being the first of its kind in Bauchi.
Dr. Azodoh commended the ATBUTH management for their commitment to pioneering this cutting-edge medical service. He expressed his admiration for the hospital’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art healthcare to the people of Bauchi state.
Witnessing the operation, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Yusuf Jibrin, expressed satisfaction with the surgical team’s exhibition of experience, expertise and determination.
The CMD acknowledged the crucial support received from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, emphasising that such progress wouldn’t have been possible without the university’s involvement.
Prof. Jibrin assured the general public that this service would be readily accessible, significantly reducing the need for patients to seek such treatments elsewhere.
The Vice-Chancellor, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Prof. Muhammad Abdulaziz, shared his elation at the successful launch of the laser surgery programme. He pledged that the university administration would continue to provide unwavering support and collaborate with ATBUTH, building upon the longstanding partnership between the two institutions.
Dr. Makama Baje, the Head of the Department of Surgery at ATBUTH, revealed that the groundwork has been laid for the continuation of laser surgeries within the hospital.
