Senator Mohammed Tahir Mongunois is a lawyer by profession and former Federal House of Representatives member, representing Marte-Monguno-Nganzai Federal Constituency of Borno State, Nigeria. He served as the majority chief Whip of the 9th House of Representatives.
He was elected as a member of the House in 1992 at the age of 26 years. He served as a committee member on the Application of Sharia law in Borno State in 2000.
The Lawmaker served as Honourable Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General between 2003 and 2005, a small stint as Honourable Commissioner for Education (2005-2006) and Honourable Commission for Water Resources (2006 – 2007) in Borno state
He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2007 and has been a member of the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th assemblies under the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The lawmaker was among the 15 Lawmakers that move a motion asking the President to sack the Service Chiefs due to the incessant attacks by Boko Haram insurgents in the North East zone.
One of the outstanding bill for the Lawmakers is the bill for an Act to alter the 1999 constitution in May 2020 to allow for Independent candidacy into any elective office in Nigeria
