The Medical Director Federal Medical centre, Prof. Awwal Mohammed Abubakar was on Monday presented an award of “icon of leadership” by the 2019 pioneer intern nurses in the centre.
The award was presented to him during a courtesy call by the first intern nurses of the centre at the Hospital’s Boardroom.
According to the representative of the intern nurses, Bilyaminu Bala Yahya, the award was presented to the MD in recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities and skills in the day to day running of the Hospital.
The intern nurses also congratulated Awwal on his re-appointment as the Medical Director, of the centre for a four-year tenure, which they said was a well deserved appointment.
They made an appeal to the Hospital Management on the placement of intern nurses from Conhess 7 to Conhess 8.
They also sought for special consideration for some of their married “female” colleagues who reside in Yola to be given the opportunity to undergo the mandatory National Youth Service corps (NYSC) in the Centre and assured the Management of their willingness to take up appointment after the NYSC when called upon.
Prof. Awwal who was represented by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Joel Yohanna received the Medical Director’s award.
Dr Joel in his remarks, congratulated the first intern nurses in the Hospital and expressed satisfaction with them. He urged them to be good ambassadors of the centre by ensuring they put into practice what they have learnt and give their best wherever they found the opportunity to work.
He said the centre would continue to accept intern nurses and congratulated them for almost completing their mandatory one year intern training program.
He commended the Head of Nursing Services. Mrs. Fadimatu Umar and the MD for their unrelented efforts towards the success of the training program. He went further by assuring the intern nurses that the Management would look into their appeal as requested and thanked them for the awards of recognition.
The Director of Administration, Alh. Aliyu Mohammed Nayejo assured the intern nurses that their request for married “female” intern nurses residing in Yola to undergo NYSC in the centre would be honoured.
Other recipients of awards were the Head of clinical services, Dr. Joel Yohanna who received an award in recognition of his various contributions to humanity and the Assistant Director heading the Nursing Services, Mrs.Fadimatu Umaru who was also presented with an award in recognition of her mentorship to younger nurses and the nursing profession.
Earlier in her opening remarks, Mrs Fadimatu extended her appreciation to the MD for his unrelented supports in ensuring the successful training of intern nurses and also ensuring the Centre is upgraded to a Teaching Hospital.
The ADNS commended the intern nurses for their good behaviour during the course of their training. She advised them to practice their profession devoid of religious and tribal sentiments assuring them of her continuous support whenever required.
