Mubi Emirate Council, northern senatorial district, Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria has received the result of the nomination of the district head of Pakka, Maiha local government area.
The nomination, which held today, Wednesday, November 17, 2021, in Pakka district, was reported to have been supervised by the delegated members of the Emirate Council, led by Danburam, as returning officers and witnessed by the security agencies.
There were four candidates that contested for the district head stool, out of which two were nominated for the onward selection by or determination of the Emirate Council. The four candidates are:
1. Yarima Muhammad Adamu Abubakar, holding the title of MaiPakka (whose father it was said, considered as Crown Prince) son of the immediate late district head of Pakka, Ardo Adamu Abubakar – the second district head – holding the Dan-Isa Mubi traditional title, in the Emirate Council
2. Yarima Ahmadu Saibaru, son of the first district head of Pakka, Ardo Saibaru Sanda.
3. Yarima Usman Ahmadu, son of the late and brother to the current village head of Vokna, Ardo Adamu Ahmadu.
4. Ardo Muhammadu Aliyu, current village head of Pakka and elder brother to the current chairman, Maiha local government council, Hon. Idi Ali Amin.
There are five villages that constitute Pakka district, namely; Pakka, Vokna, Gurdufe, Humbutudi, Mbalasi and Chulangi also referred to as Naddere.
Five village heads (Ardos) of the six villages that form Pakka district did the nomination.
The village head of Pakka, who is the sixth village head (Ardo) would not nominate because he was among those contesting for the district head stool.
“The experience has just repeated itself,” the commentators of the monarchy in Maiha would analyse that with the creation of Pakka district in 1993, “the first district head, Saibaru Sanda did not nominate even though he was a village head because he was among the candidates contesting.
“Similarly, with the demise of Saibaru Sanda, the first district head of Pakka, Adamu Abubakar, the second district head who was then a village head, did not nominate because he was also contesting for the district headship, wouldn’t he have nominated himself?”
“Four of the five village heads of Gurdufe, Humbutudi, Mbalasi and Chulangi/Naddere, nominated Yarima Muhammad Adamu Abubakar, the MaiPakka, son of the immediate past district head of Pakka, while the village head of Vokna, Ardo Adamu Ahmadu nominated his brother, Yarima Usman Ahmadu.
“The Emirate Council, having received the result, adjudged to be credible and peaceful nomination, will eventually select the most capable candidate for a district head from among the nominated two, irrespective of the number of votes won by an individual, after which the selected candidate will be recommended to the governor only for the approval of appointment, a source close to the Emirate Council would reveal to the Periscope Reporter.
Recall that the Emirate Council has in a meeting held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, fixed November 17 for the nomination of the new district head of Pakka, following the demise of Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, the second district of head, which sad incident occurred on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.
The Emirate Council has however cautioned against any nominated candidate declaring himself to be the district head before the final selection and the executive approval of appointment.
While the supporters of the nominated candidates were happily satisfied that it was a free, fair and credible nomination devoid of undue interferences, the supporters of the village head of Pakka nursed a reservation that their candidate was disenfranchised for not being allowed to nominate, “at least he would have nominated himself and would have passed for the Emirate Council’s selection.
“It’s a sham exercise. We’ll not let it go without redress. We’re considering going to court to declare the nomination null and void; an exercise in futility”.
