National honours are awards officially given to distinguished members of the society, by way of recognising their contributions towards national development. Professor Modibbo has in this respect, duly paid his dues and is still serving the country and humanity
The contributions, with his support, of his lovely wife, Distinguished Senator Aishatu Binani, in many respects and aspects, to Adamawa state and the country as a whole, cannot be overemphasised.
The latest of Professor Modibbo’s contributions, is joining the popular call for good governance by offering his wife, Sen Aishatu Binani, referred to as amazing amazon, to to fly the APC governorship flag in Adamawa state.
The latest Binani’s programme, targeted at salvaging the poor, both as political and social responsibility, is the ongoing medical outreach, where indigent patients are identified from across the 21 local government areas of the state, to benefit from free cataract and fibroid surgeries, holding at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, MAUTH Yola, Adamawa state. The former Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola, she tirelessly partook in the upgrading with the bill she sponsored among other bills that have seen the light of day
Culled from the University of Abuja website, Professor Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed was appointed as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, on 15th July, 2021.
He is a seasoned administrator, a historian, an educationist, a sound intellectual and above all, a humanist.
Professor Modibbo hails from Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He had his primary school education in Lokuwa Primary School Mubi, between 1961-1966. He had his secondary school education in St. Paul’s College, Wusasa, Zaria and Government Secondary School Maiduguri, between 1967-1973. In 1976, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where he also obtained his Ph.D. in the same discipline, in 1985.
Because of his quest for knowledge, Professor Modibbo went ahead and obtained a Certificate in Leadership and Strategic Change in Higher Education from University of Abertay, Dundee, in the year 2000. In 2002, he also obtained a Certificate in Management of Higher Education Institutions Programme from Harvard.
Since he concluded his first degree, he has been serving this nation in different capacities – from a classroom teacher during his NYSC days (Borgu Secondary School, New Bussa, 1976-1977), to a lecturer in his alma mater; rising from a Graduate Assistant in 1977 to a Senior Lecturer and the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
He was appointed as the Chief Executive of National Teachers’ Institute, Kaduna, in 2000, where he served until 2007 when he was appointed as the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission.
Professor Modibbo is a thoroughbred Professor of History with over one hundred and sixteen seminar/conference/journal papers to his credit, in addition to being an author of seven books on history and education.
He has served the country in several capacities, including the Ministerial Committee on the Review/ Drafting of White Paper on Visitation Panel reports to Federal Universities in Nigeria between October and December 1999.
He was also a board member of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and member of the National Committee on West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC).
Professor Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed is married with children and grandchildren.
