…No Binani No Election, No Woman No Nation…
….Binani is the candidate to beat, she is already altering the political dynamics rattling the space
In spite to the Binani’s call for calm, having commended the electorates, with the assurance that the rather harsh judgment would be challenged at the higher court, the Comfort group could only be comfortable announcing their grievances publicly by means of peaceful protest and in the protection of a female mandate, a political pundit puts it as practicalising the Tallen’s call to justice for female mandate.
The Assembly of ladies in Adamawa state alongside side gentlemen have taken to the streets of Yola rather peacefully, grieving over what they described as judicial disenfranchisement, following the high court judgment that nullified the candidacy of the Distinguished Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmad a.k.a Binani, as the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship flag bearer.
The chanting “Sai-Matan-Nan” bevy of ladies for “Kiran-Jama’a” and the chabnting “Ba-Binani-Ba-,Zabe” gentlemen have staged a peaceful march displaying banners and placards with the inscription, “No Binani No Election,” “No Woman No Nation, it’s Binani’s mandate give it back to her,” from different angles angrily chided the Anka judgment they conceived as aiming at denying women from participating in the general elections
The peaceful protest procession was facilitated by the Adamawa state chapter of Women in Politics. While addressing journalists, the women have frowned at what they regarded as deliberate attempt by the schematics, who instead of submitting to faith by conceding defeat, conspired to rob women of their mandate, they referred to as marginalisation of women in the political space.
Comrade Comfort Ezra, the lead protagonist in the women’s maiden march against judicial disenfranchisement told the men in the media that the recent Court judgment delivered by the federal high court sitting in Yola that failed to uphold the election of Binani, the lone female governorship candidate in Nigeria for the 2023 general election was a wake-up call to all women in Nigeria to protest against the display of undemocratic tenets.
According to Comrade Comfort, apparently uncomfortable with the court judgment, “the call is not for Adamawa women alone, it’s a call for all women across the country and beyond, to ensure that the lone lady, gubernatorial candidate is not robbed of her mandate using technicalities”.
The women leader who led the peaceful protest procession, chanting solidary songs in favour of Senator Binani said Binani’s victory at the gubernatorial primaries has rattled the men folk not only in the APC, adding that the technicalities deployed, aimed at scheming the female candidate out of the governorship race to get the state out of the maze, through the court, was a deliberate effort by the male counterparts to stop women from becoming leaders, which they considered as an affront on all women.
“While we commend the condensers who not only conceded defeat, congratulated Binani over the landslide victory, we do not however conjure up why a lone contender would not display sportsmanship and accept the verdict of the people instead of casting for the courts to condemn the popular mandate because of two votes sourced out of miscounting that should simply have been reviewed.
”We are calling on all women across Nigeria to lend their voices and stand firm to see that Senator Binani’s mandate is not thwarted through the backdoor.
“Binani’s mandate is a mandate for every woman and all women should rise up to protect and defend as our Talented Honourable Minister for Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen has rightly pointed out some days previously.
“In as much as we are law-abiding and respect our courts of law, we are calling on the higher court to do justice in the case without fear or favor, with the consideration that the court of law is the last hope of the common man,” Comfort said
Comfort added that it would be of much comfort calling on the APC leadership to stand by Binani “because recent events have proven that Binani is the candidate to beat in the 2023 Adamawa Governorship election.
“You all may like to know why the PDP government in Adamawa swiftly substituted her male deputy governorship candidate with a female immediately Binani won the APC governorship primary election. The fear of Binani is the beginning of the catch-up strategy.
”We urge women stakeholders in the political space to rise up and defend the women by protecting the mandate duly given to Binani.
“We must all remember that women are nation builders and can adequately manage resources and deliver on the needs of the people,” comfort concluded rather comfortably.
