…PAWECA ought to have fanned Fintiri with the N4.4 billion Fresh Air empowerment for poverty alleviation stride for him to breeze the campaign atmosphere rather than ignoring it
…Over N4.4 billion would have pulled substantial population of the poor out of poverty in Adamawa state
Adamawa state indigenes, especially the indigents, for whom the empowerment would have been meant, have started raised doubts over the Fintiri led government’s poverty alleviation and wealth creation programme, following the disclosure by the Adamawa State Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, PAWECA that the state government has spent over N4.4 billion naira on skills acquisition, women and youths empowerment covering the period of four years.
The doubts keep mounting anytime Governor Fintiri led a ward-to-ward campaign soliciting for a second chance without mentioning, as part of his achievements, the poverty alleviation and wealth creation programme, for which a huge taxpayers’ fortune was said to have been invested, estimated to be sufficient to pull substantial population of the poor out of poverty in Adamawa state.
“Why isn’t the Governor mentioning PAWECA initiative as part of his achievements during campaigns? Hasn’t he been informed by the leadership of the agency?
“You the journalists, who are closer to the corridors of power and cannot be denied access to the answers should raise this observation for clarification,” an electorate who gave his name as Sunusi Philip would throw the challenge.
Fintiri led government is criticised for undermining human capacity development as part of his tragic flaws, which is the angle that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a Binani, the APC governorship candidate cashes on as integral part of her campaign manifesto and that which endeared the former Governor Murtala Hammanyero Nyako, a.k.a Baba Maimangoro to lend a heavyweight support to the Binani for Governor campaign.
The story could be different if the PAWECA activities were factored in the Fintiri governorship campaign.
Nyako’s skills acquisition programmes and social welfare scheme have indeed pulled substantial populations of the poor in Adamawa state out of poverty, before his government was unlawfully pulled down and the initiative scrapped.
According to the Adamawa State Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, PAWECA, Fintiri led government has spent over N4.4 billion from 2019 to 2022 on skills acquisition and social support services to the poor and vulnerable youth and women.
This implies that the Fintiri led government invested over N1.1 billion yearly on poverty alleviation, youth and women empowerment.
Breaking further, each of the 21 local governments, if shared equally, would have two hundred and nine million, five hundred and twenty three thousand, eight hundred and nine naira (N209,523,809.5238095) invested in their indigent indigenes within four years and over fifty two million three hundred and eighty thousand, nine hundred and fifty two naira (N52,380,952.38095238) annually.
The state government according to PAWECA, has budgeted N2.445b in the year 2023 to be able to continue the youth and women empowerment.
