…SAY NO TO ELECTION VIOLENCE…
It is rather sad and unfortunate that a politician in the person of the Local Government Chairman as alleged, has been empowered in Mubi North local government area, northern senatorial district of Adamawa state, to ride along with armed soldiers and police personnel in an unnecessary and unwholesome show of force within the Mubi Town and along Vimtim, Ribawo and Muchalla axis of the Local Government Area. He has been riding along in the security vehicles with the security men pretending to be one of them.
Most disturbing is the fact that this same politician is known to have recruited armed thugs in the name of vigilantes and often deployed them to cause a breach of peace in the town whenever there is a political gathering by opposition parties. An extremely partisan fellow with a known record of fomenting trouble should not be allowed to ride on the back of security agencies and intimidate voters on the eve of a crucial election.
There is a need to draw the attention of the heads of the security agencies in Abuja to the claim by the state government that they have compromised the security agencies and hence expect them to do their bidding. This may be a bluff to scare the opposition but when the likes of the Chairman of Mubi North ride glaringly in a show of force with security personnel, it lends some credence to these unsavoury rumours.
The security agencies should remain neutral and provide protection to all citizens who are willing to go out and cast their votes. Voter suppression is one of the strategies the PDP government in the state intends to use in order to win the election. It is important to note that there is an expected large turn out of women in the gubernatorial election. All this show of force and display of power is intended to stop them from coming out to vote. Adamawa voters particular our women should be protected and not frightened on the 18th of March.
