Does it make any sense that candidates would indicate interest after having been engaged, invited by the electorates for a contest, would purchase or would be purchased a nomination form, scale through screening exercises, participate in the party primaries, constitute a campaign team, tour round the entire local government areas of the state to canvas for votes and the electorates would defeat the unfriendly weather, sacrifice their time to cast their votes, praying that a better candidate would gain the victory for the task of getting the state out of the maze and restore public confidence in governance that is free of any sentiment, only to eventually rubbish the process by anointing the defeated in the name of godfatherism consolidation?
What happens to the financial sacrifice, the support of the teeming stakeholders, the represented interests of the citizenry as the voting exercise would reflect? Can a democrat who spent the entire part of his political time to fighting the undemocratic tendencies join in enforcing godfather-democracy on the citizenry as a departure to democratising democracy?
The rumour running round, going about, the jest, side-talks and the unverified insinuation in Adamawa state, more particularly, the state capital, is that the PDP presidential candidate, HE Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa “is pleading that the Adamawa governorship should be surrendered to his party candidate as a mark of honour whether or not the candidate wins election.
Who is actually promoting this insinuation and what is the source? Is it a kind of flying the kite? Could it make any impact? These are questions that a conference of concerned critics and the convener could consider as current and cogent.
Adamawa is currently the political central nervous system of the country with varied and independent interests. The state that it is hoped, would produce the first female governor in the country.
It is the state that both the ruling party, the APC at the national level and the PDP, the ruling party at the state level would pray to reclaim. The question of consensus, negotiation that would result in ceding the party to a particular personality, irrespective of political party identity would be intolerable.
“No one or political party should Adamawa mandate be surrendered to but the candidate and party that win the governorship election. We’ll not submit to such negotiation, reducing the state to the politics of godfatherism,” the critics would say.
The most Distinguished Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a Binani, the APC governorship candidate in Adamawa state was declared, under what he could refer to as the condition of necessity, by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC Hudu Yunusa Ari as the winner of of the 2023 governorship election having undoubtedly scored the incorruptible, non-manipulative higher votes.
Binani is apparently the people’s choice right from the campaign rally and beyond, with her philanthropic interventions and effective and efficient representational responsibilities. She’s not accused in any way of diverting public funds to private purse, she’s a tested and trusted detribalised political heroine whose impacts are felt even by the faith based organizations and worship centres cut across religions.
Every conspiracy to undermine the amazing amazon only helps in adding to Binani’s popularity. The Interpol’s invitation honoured by hero Hudu Ari Yunusa was a bombshell revelation and has exonerated the political heroine from the N2 billion for governorship declaration scandal.
Money, it is alleged, exchanged hands for governorship declaration but not between REC Ari hero Hudu and heroine Binani the amazon with amazing courage and compassion.
After the Binani’s, Governor Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri was also officially declared by yet another INEC as being re-elected and was served the victory certificate, which celebration led to the burning of Muslims prayer rugs, prayer beads, khimar, kettles for ablution and killing of dogs and pigs for feasting. It was indeed a violence instigated jubilation in the holy month of Ramadan. However, the Muslims kept calm, called for God’s intervention, take care of the antagonists of the faith.
While President Muhammadu Buhar has called for thorough investigation into the violence associated with the Adamawa election, represented by the alleged executive molestation of the INEC Commissioner Prof Zuru and the DSS senior officer, Hudu has challenged INEC before the law for the deliberate media onslaught against him and to be declared in public as being innocent of the media mischief about him, Binani and the APC has challenged what is considered as stolen mandate before the law.
Let’s go…
