Adamawa: No bank overdraft no April salary
Adamawa workers, like most of the state government workers in the country, lamented over non payment of April salaries when May enters its second week and month Ramadan is in its five days today being Saturday.
Analysts articulated that most of the states that have not yet paid their workers have as governor’s, those who were either defeated at the polls hence could not succeed themselves or those who have completed their two terms tenure.
Owing to the quantum of external debta dancing to the tune of N52b and with less than N1b after deductions for debts servicing from N4.1b that gets into the coffers of Adamawa state government from FAAC, the state government will not be able to pay salaries without advancing a back overdraft.
However, the Bin-no-April-salary-without-bank-overdraft-Dow-apologists responded to attack against their principal as being a Ramadhanic insensitive and workers unfriendly, challenging his humiliating defeat at the poll by stubborn refusal to redeem April salaries even though he bragged that he would be the first governor to approve the implementation of the N30,000, even when he could not pay the initial N18,000 minimum wage.
A group led by Mr Mapida Ikwurunyi, former Secretary Justice Frontiers told journalists in Abuja Saturday, that the lack of payment of April Salaries by Adamawa state government should be pinned on Rt Hon Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri the governor elect, for threatening banks not to honour governor Bindow’s loan request.
“Ordinarily, we won’t have joined this childish and myopic view with some individuals who claimed that Governor Bindow refused to pay workers salary in the month of Ramadhan.
“How can a governor who is not indebted to any worker (sick) for over four years make u turn today not to pay April salary?
“You are all witnesses when the governor elect Fintiri, through his media aides called Solomon Kumangar, cautioned the banks not to honour any loan request by Bindow led administration again.
“The several warnings from Fintiri has send jittery into the spine of bank managers and subsequently, that is responsible for the delay in payment of April salaries for Adamawa State workers,” Ikwurunyi said.
Similarly, Alh Musa Dasini a political commentator, argued that denying Bindow access to bank overdraft to be able to pay April salaries was aimed at crediting cheap popularity to Fintiri, typical of the experience when Nyako was fought against.
Dasini said Nyako as a governor could not access the Adamawa government funds but when he was eventually rather illegally impeached, Fintiri as acting governor, was released monies to be able to settle outstanding salaries to have earned him the ATM Fintiri nickname by the workers.
Investigations by the Periscope Global, revealed that Rt Hon Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri the governor elect, has not yet appointed any media aide for a media mediation holding his brief and that the governor elect was out of the country to have responded to the allegation.
Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow himself could not get to be reached to respond to allegations that the recent employment of workers in the state, bearing in mind that Adamawa is financially constrained, was with the view to making the state difficult to govern by Fintiri, which could be among the reasons why the duo could not get to reconcile on the bank overdraft for payment of salaries of the month of April.
