The Adamawa Police Command said it would enforce orders relating to social distancing and closure of institutions if learning, where it equally warned against unnecessary arrests and detention, as a measure to control the spread of Coronavirus that is considered as the a global plague.
This is contained in a press lease Monday, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Sulaiman Yahya Nguroje
“Against the backdrop of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) global health threat and the subsequent social restriction orders imposed by governments at all levels, to enable its containment, the Commissioner of Police, AUDU A MADAKI , while enjoining citizens to voluntarily adhere to the orders, directs all DPOs and their supervising Area commanders to ensure that all legitimate orders given in pursuant to the containment efforts by the Government are strictly enforced within their areas of jurisdiction.
“The CP while urging officers to observe personal safety measures, further directs the Area commanders and DPOs to ensure that cases of unnecessary arrests and detention of suspects are not condoned.
“The CP reiterates that detention of suspects must be reduced to the barest minimum and that only very serious cases such as terrorism, armed robbery, homicide and other non-bailable offences should warrant detention.
“The CP further directs that adequate measures be emplaced to screen persons to be committed into police custody.
“The CP enjoins citizens to avoid social visits to police stations and other police offices and minimize official visits, except where absolutely necessary.
“The CP has directed that the command to make public the phone numbers of it’s Command Control Room, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other Operational Commanders using the conventional and non- conventional media in order to facilitate alternative interacting and reporting options between the Public and the Police
“Furthermore, in compliance with the Government’s directives that all tertiary institutions in the state be shut, the CP has ordered the immediate closure of all Police Primary and Secondary Schools in the state.
“Meanwhile, the police Medical Services step up sensitization programmes across Formations and Barracks in the Command in compliance to the directives.
“Thanks for your usual cooperation,” the press release read.
