Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Adamawa state governor has called on the political office holders to desist from diverting food items as palliatives measures to contain the effect of covid-19, meant for the vulnerable in the society, as the next phase of distribution was schedule for Thursday.
Fintiri gave the warning Monday, at the Government House in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, during a meeting with commissioners, members of the state assembly and chairmen local government councils who are among members of the distribution committee of palliatives in the state.
Fintiri expressed his dismay at the embarrassing manner the previous palliatives were distributed in the state, alleged to have taken the path of segregation and selfishness as coordinated by the committee members, where he called on them to disregard all political considerations and discharge their duties with fairness in the subsequent distributions.
Fintiri charged the members of the distribution committee, especially political office holders to be serious and find time on Thursday this week to collect the next batch of palliatives and follow it down to their various local governments for onward fair disbursement to vulnerable in the state.
“In sharing irrespective of where a person’s interest belongs, so long as he is from from Adamawa state, so long as he leaves in the community of Adamawa state, he is entitled to any palliative by the state government.
“But down the line I’ve received some reports and complaints that there’ve been segregations and some people have been sidelined. Therefore, government has decided that the next batch of palliative we’re going to release, we should be serious. We must be seen to be doing the assignments for which we’re being representing; whether you’re a state assembly member, whether you’re a commissioner or a local government chairman, whenever there’s a call that we should come and receive these palliatives at the state stores, please, we should all be there. So that nobody will complain that he has been shortchanged.
“But where a local government chairman is given or was asked to call on the members of the assembly and the chairmen and then you refused to go to collect the items along with other members only for to turn round and be complaining, I think we should depart from this attitude,” Fintiri warned
The Executive Chairman Mubi South local government Alhaji Jingi Rufai and member representing Guyuk in the State House of Assembly Mr. Adwawa Dongolok who spoke in an interview promised to answer the governor’s call; to ensure equitable distribution of the next batch of palliatives.
