* Commends Prof Bashir, the Executive Secretary NCNE

Commissioner of Education Bauchi State, Dr. Aliyu U. Tilde has assured that in the subsequent performance index on nomadic education, Bauchi state would join the two leading states; Jigawa and Kano.
The ES “gave a pass to Jigawa and Kano. He was thankful to their governors. The agencies for nomadic education in two states, he said, have minimal problems, so to speak.
“Soon, the ES will have an additional state to praise on his lips. That will be Bauchi, in sha Allah. We are determined to turn the tide” Tilde said.
Tilde has commended President Buhari for the renewal of appointment of the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE), Prof Bashir Haruna Usman, whom he described as an achiever who is equal to the assigned responsibility.
According to Tilde, “Prof Bashir is a person with deep interest in his job. His tenure as Executive Secretary of NCNE was just renewed by His Excellency, the President, for the next 5 years. As a former Vice Chancellor of MAUTECH, Yola, I found him abreast with the challenges of nomads and the difficulties the state agencies for nomadic education are facing”.
Tilde made the remark when he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Secretary, Nomadic Education (NCNE), Professor Bashir Haruna Usman at the NCNE Abuja liaison office Abuja.
Read below the full text of Dr Tilde’ piece of the his visit to the ES:
Yesterday, my tour of basic education bodies in Abuja took me to the NCCE complex, where I met with its ES in the morning to discuss issues of mutual interest. I was to return to the complex in the afternoon to meet with the Executive Secretary of National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE), Professor Bashir Haruna Usman at the NCNE Abuja liaison office there. The gist that his Board Chairman, Professor Gidado Tahir, told me earlier in the day saved me a trip I planned to their head office at Kaduna today. Lucky me.
Professor Bashir is a person with deep interest in his job. His tenure as Executive Secretary of NCNE was just renewed by His Excellency, the President, for the next 5 years. As a former Vice Chancellor of MAUTECH, Yola, I found him abreast with the challenges of nomads and the difficulties the state agencies for nomadic education are facing. He gave a pass to Jigawa and Kano. He was thankful to their governors. The agencies for nomadic education in two states, he said, have minimal problems, so to speak.
Well, I am here, along with our Bauchi State Agency for Nomadic Education (BASANE) to make a difference. Soon, the ES will have an additional state to praise on his lips. That will be Bauchi, in sha Allah. We are determined to turn the tide. Right now, our performance in the past five years in the area of nomadic education has been abysmal, I must confess.
The statistics are clear. In the past 5 years, only 7 projects were carried out under BASANE, touching on only 7 out of 463 primary schools, three of which were carried out by NCNE. To put it straight, the 463 schools have been abandoned for years. Is it surprising that we have bandits and kidnappers below the age of 30 from our forests?
Are these schools not part of the basic schools’ count that are entitled to the attention that other similar schools get? Fortunately, I have cleared the matter with the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission in Abuja a day before. These schools deserve to be treated as other schools. It is my duty as commissioner to bring every stakeholder involved on board in the state. Soon, Bauchi will gain the heart of Professor Bashir and of his Chairman, Professor Tahir, the emeritus administrator of basic education in the country.
The ES assured me of his full cooperation and even offered to share documents that will give me a deep insight into the activities of his Commission in the past 30 years, though its mandate is limited to coordination.
As the clerics continue with their effort in taking religious education to the nomads, we in government establishment need to retrace our steps and pay due attention to their rights and plight. Education is the only tool for their refinement and integration into the larger civilization.
In the picture, the ant, once again, is seen shaking the hands of another giant, the Prof.
