The Hose of Representatives Member, representing Fufore/Song Federal Constituency in the 8th National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin, considered as man of letters, a Barrister as lawmaker with philanthropic spirit, crossing the technocratic barrier with efficient and effective representation has advised the interim LG chairmen, Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria, not to be narcotised by their present appointments to go obnoxious in flamboyant rather borrowed lifestyle, for they have but a short adminstrative lifespan.
Below is the full text of Dasin’s call, shared via his Facebook page:
Let me use this medium to congratulate all of you for your recent appointment. I have some advise for you.
First, please don’t change your lifestyle because you have been appointed Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman. Somebody just left the office you now occupy and he is already in financial difficulties. Live an ordinary life, expensive social habit has put many politicians in a lot of trouble. Don’t try to impress. Do the little you can, with the little moneys allocated to your office. One legacy is better than a long stay in office with nothing tangible to show after leaving office.
A couple of boreholes here and there for the rural poor or even repairing a few others that may have been spoilt or renovating a classroom, clinic or even a graveyard may mean a lot to the rural poor.
Don’t start to show off with white ‘babban riga’, expensive shoes nor increase the number of your girlfriends or start sleeping in expensive hotels while your wife suffers.
That your wife who has been with you when you were nobody and loved you when you were nobody will remain with you after the Governor removes you from office.
Your children who craved for a better school would wish to wear new and better clothes to match the new status of their father. They would love your new status to continue long after you leave office.
Governor Fintiri may not allow you to contest the next election as chairman (or so I was told), but even if he allows you, please don’t change your lifestyle.
Above all, you don’t need to steal. Good habit will bring good people back to you. It may take long. But a good person gets back his good people always. It is fare weather friends that never return.
Kuma ayi tattali, ayi tattali. Kudin siyasa bai son kazamar bukata. It is very temporary.
Finally, we can’t create wealth, nor can we generate employment if we continue to fritter money away uselessly.
