Alhaji Umar Mustapha Madawaki, aka Otumba,
the intellectual and technocratic politician of philanthropic order, with the air about welfarism has responded to the popular electorates’ call to rescue Adamawa state from ill-intentioned, unqualified, unprepared, unwilling, worn-out, weak and wicked leadership, resulting in excruciating hardships, social and economic devastation, having thrown the state into debris of debts, he said.
In his declaration of the call to contest for the office of governor of Adamawa state under the major opposition APC, Otumba has pointed out that in the absence of the most competent hands, the state is mismanaged by chronic cluelessness and that greater aspiration of state craft cannot be achieved from outside the power circle.
According to Otumba, “It is in view of the current enormous challenges facing this state, the clear understanding of the solutions to these problems and the will to duly and honourably serve you that I humbly present myself for the governorship of this great state.
“My dear compatriots, I would like to reiterate my frequent statement that my candidature for this exalted office is nothing but a rescue mission aimed at saving the remaining glory, prosperity and hope for the great people of this state.
“The idea of my candidature is built solidly on the foundation of the collective yearnings and aspirations of men and women, old and young citizens of this state, who, like all other citizens of a democratic society aspire for shared prosperity, security of life and property and a decent and honourable standard of living.
“My proposal of becoming your next governor is born out of my life-time desire to see that Adamawa harnesses its full potentials to attain its destined greatness. It is the burning desire to transform this state into not just a viable state, but one that is perpetually progressive and prosperous.
“However, while we can contribute our quota from all positions and social strata we occupy, I have learned over the decades of active participation in the private and development sectors that the greater aspiration of state craft cannot be achieved from outside the power circle.
This is because in the absence of the most competent hands, ill-intentioned, unqualified, unprepared and unwilling individuals would take-over the affairs of the state and eventually cripple its foundations. This, unfortunately, is the current state of affairs, bitter as it sounds to the ears.
“For instance, over the last three years, Adamawa state and its good people have gone through excruciating hardships, social and economic devastation caused by the insensitive mismanagement of our already lean resources.
This state, which was recently on its way to economic prosperity ahead of most northern states in terms of economic development has been plunged into deep financial and socioeconomic crises.
“For all discerning minds, this misfortune is completely avoidable if the current PDP government had avoided the wrong-headed policies, financial recklessness and resource mismanagement.
“Let me state that my aspiration is not informed by illusions reminiscent of the usual political jinx. We are guided by clear visions and missions that are based on thorough understanding of the contemporary challenges of this state.
“Ever since I ventured into this rescue mission, several years ago, I had taken time and expended resources in studying the literature on state craft, ranging from biographies of successful leaders around the world, political history of societies and the socioeconomic evolution of human society.
“These extensive studies open our hearts and minds to the generalities of political economy and state craft, as well as the peculiarities of our state and its current position in the developmental curve.
“This gives me and my team the required understanding and preparedness to deal with the problems facing us as a people.
“Dear compatriots, by no means can we underestimate the challenges facing this state, nor can we overemohasise the urgency of this rescue mission to salvage the only place we call home.
“That this state is sinking fast and deep into economic oblivion and social crises is a statement of fact.
“That the current administration lacks the requisite competence and political will to lead us out of the mess they created themselves is glaring.
“Should we, therefore, sit and fold our hands while this beloved state is being destroyed?
“Should we be afraid of taking back power and save the future of our state?
“Should we allow incompetence and resource mismanagement to destroy the future of our children?
“If you agree with me that Adamawa deserves better; if you believe that Adamawa will be great, then join me to rescue this state. I have given myself, my life and my honour to save this state. All I ask for is: GIVE ME THE CHANCE. Together we can do it!”
