Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa has emerged as the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against all odds again after polling 371 votes at the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, at MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abuja.
Atiku defeated the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who scored 237 votes, Bukola Saraki 70 votes, Sam Ohuanbunwa 1 vote, Anyim Pius Anyim 14 votes, Udom Emmanuel 38 votes and Bala Mohammed 20 votes.
Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, had earlier withdrawn from the presidential race in solidarity to Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku supporters in Abuja and and northeast of the country are jubilating over the Atiku victory, saying this is the time this is our turn.
