The Vice Chancellor, Modibbo Adama University, MAU Yola, Adamawa state, Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur has bagged the Honorary Fellow Membership of the Association of Public Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria, APPPON.
The Fellowship was conferred on him during the celebration, marking the VC’s third year anniversary and presentation of his festschrift on Friday, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Yola.
As a literary genre, a festschrift is a book honoring a respected person, especially an academic, and presented during their lifetime. It generally takes the form of an edited volume, containing contributions from the honoree’s colleagues, former pupils, and friends.
APPPON ensures compliance to the Public Procurement act, which came into operation in 2007. Honorary Fellowship, the Periscope Global gathered, is conferred on distinguished personalities who are honoured by the APPPON, for excellence in their various occupations, with proven INTEGRITY and TRANSPARENCY in the PUBLIC PROCUREMENT process.
VC’s festschrift with the title: “Contemporary Perspective on Environmental Issues” was reviewed by Prof Abbas Bashir who articulated that the subject of enquiry would undoubtedly be appealing to officials and non officials in charge of public policy and environmental management and the larger society.
The festschrift has 364 pages and 35 chapters, contributed by 82 professional colleagues and associates of the VC.
Presenting the achievements of Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur within 3 years as VC, Deputy VC Administration MAU, Prof Muhammad Inuwa Ja’afaru said the Prof Liman Tukur has been able to accomplish the blueprint he articulated to the Governing Council during the inaugural meeting.
Ja’afar revealed that Prof Tukur’s stewardship in the area of prudent management of resources has assisted the varsity to maintain the school even during strike actions and covid-19 breaks in addition to improving revenue generation.
Ja’afar explained that the VC was able to facilitate the conversion of the university to conventional status, giving room for the social sciences and humanities among others.
Ja’afar said under the VC, the institution has achieved almost 100% accreditation of her new programmes.
Ja’afar added that the VC was able to boost the integrity and credibility of MAU as well as checkmate misconduct, which include but not limited to developing policy on sexual harrasment on the campus.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Registrar MAU, Hajiya Halima Bala revealed that the VC has put the varsity on the pedestals of development that could henceforth give the best output to the citizenry.
Unveiling the festschrift, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State commended and congratulated the humble, amiable, critical thinking and forward looking thought VC who he disclosed, was part and parcel of the think tank that formed the structure, which brought his administration on board.
The Governor commended the VC for the achievements recorded so far in the MAU.
The Governor revealed that he has since signed the approval of a certificate of occupancy of the land meant for the medical college of the MAU, which he described as a great milestone to the state.
In his vote of thanks, Prof Liman Tukur explained that the event was to demonstrate love and togetherness. He commended Governor Fintiri’s developmental strides across Adamawa.
