One would have thought that it was a Fulani-Kanuri kind of master-servant joke-relationship, with each tribe claiming to be the master of the other, in which case, an entertainment; there shouldn’t be a case for a court of law to entertain.
However, the antagonist as defendant in the reality show, though said to be from or based in Adamawa state; the setting of the drama, isn’t either a Fulani or Kanuri. It isn’t clear also, whether or not the groaning gullible complainant, if he could be considered as a protagonist, could fill in as a Kanuri or Fulani and/or mixed blessing, considering the composition of tribes in Yobe state
A news report with the heading, “Adamawa Man In Court For Defrauding Yobe Accountant He Promises Prayers To Get Rich,” revealed that a middle aged man identified as Kefas Brandford, was on Wednesday, docked for duping an Accountant with the Yobe State Ministry of Finance, the sum of N277, 000.
Kefas Brandford of Ganye Local Government Adamawa State duped Suleiman Ibrahim of Yobe state, of the said amount of money after the former promised the latter prayers to get rich as well as promotion in civil service.
The defendant promised to connect the complainant with a native doctor in Ganye who would play the gods, to fine-tune his fortune, to become a one-time millionaire, cruising in hard currencies, crossing the poverty crises, defeating the experienced Boko Haram devastation.
The gullible accountant who was introduced to the Kefas via telephone by one Mustapha, kept paying money into the defendant’s account for the chickens and rams to appease the gods of fortunes to fine-fortune the fated fate.
It was Daily Times that reported that the complainant had never met one-on-one with the defendant, until two days when latter was arrested.
Suleiman, who currently resides in Kaduna state has had his house, vehicles and all other properties burnt down by Boko Haram insurgents who invaded his community in Yobe some years ago.
It was learnt that in the wake of the attack, Suleiman, and family fled to Kaduna for safety, where he decided to cast for outside help, soliciting prayer warrior’s intervention in Adamawa, to fine-tune his fortunes for a financially fruitful future.
But when the complainant was introduced to the defendant on phone, he was asked to pay N50, 000, which he did, so as to buy ram for sacrifice even without seeing the defendant.
Suleiman was said to have kept paying money on installments to the defendant for the service since 2020.
It was in August this year that Suleiman asked Kefas on phone, to link him to the native doctor because he could not see any positive change in his life.
The defendant was said to have responded that the native doctor was sent on an errand by the Gangwari Ganye; the First Class Monarch and that his going to Adamawa would be futile rather than fruitful effort.
The Accountant began to notice foul play, after the defendant added that the consulted get rich quick prayer warrior, the native doctor has turned ritualistic, hence requested for a human sacrifice, perhaps with the consideration that the gods of the fine-tune fortunes have rejected animals for sacrifice after fortunes being sought for have earlier been wasted on the ghost-fattening Kefas.
It was on this note that Suleiman decided to come to Adamawa where he lodged in a hotel for almost a month trying to trap Kefas that nailed his fortune for a failed fine-turned fate.
Suleiman, at this point, was said to have invited the police in Ganye – not another prayer warrior – who succeeded in apprehending the alleged fraudulent Kefas; hence, his arraignment before Jimeta Area Court I in Yola, for cheating and criminal breach of trust.
It was after Kefas pleaded guilty to the offences that the court, presided by Mathias Nuhu, ordered his remand, saying that the court would consider admitting him to bail if he has reliable surety.
The case was adjourned to October 10, 2022, for corroborative evidence and summary trial.
