…Court nullifies Adamawa APC governorship primaries without an option for a fresh party primary election…
…As Adamawa PDP heartily constitutes an 831-member 2023 elections campaign council chaired by HE. Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the state governor…
None of the parties in the case was satisfied with the judgment as passed. It also appeared to be a major blow to the major opposition party, the APC in Adamawa state that had produced a strong candidate, whose calculable, beyond comment appearance proved to have sent an unexplainable shock wave to the bone marrow, the kind a fictional narrator, in one of James Hadley Chase’s novel would fittingly describe as a kind of jolt one would experience while fiddling with an electric fitment and got a shock on his hands.
For her appearance to win, the ruling party in the state, desirous of retaining the mandate, would have to replace the deputy governor with a female candidate to run the 2023 governorship elections.
It is either the Governor-In-Waiting as the amazing amazon would be referred to by President Muhammad Buhari, in this respect, a personality more than any other at the moment, the APC as a party would consider as a leader beyond the party chairman, or the Sai-Matan-Nan and/or Kiran-Talakawa, among other reasonable and responsible references that proved intimidating to those joining the governorship race in the state and would do anything they could, should there be the opening, to get the distinguished Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a. Binani out to the race to Dougirei Hill she aimed at getting the state out of the maze.
It was not the expectation of the complainant, in this case, the anti corruption tsar, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, to have an adjudication that could send his party out of the 2023 governorship race in the state. He would only pray that a fresh party primary elections, which he hoped would favour him, be conducted.
The Federal High Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa state has today, Friday, nullified the APC gubernatorial primaries that produced Sen Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a Binani as the gubernatorial candidate, explaining that the party could not go into the 2023 gubernatorial election since the fresh party primary election to produce a governorship candidate isn’t offered.
Commenting on the judgement, the counsel to Mr Ribadu would say that “the justice in the main, nullified the primary elections conducted by APC on the 26th, 27th of May, 2022 and the ground is that there’s a proven case of over voting and that delegates from Lamorde were included in the election. Those were the main grounds.
“Of course, His Lordship dismissed the allegation of vote buying and the main plank of this judgment is that APC shall not fill their candidate at the election. Definitely, we will appeal the judgement there’s no doubt it”.
Commenting, the counsel to Binani would say that the judgement was as unexpected as it sounded rather harsh. On the way forward, the counsel said “I’ll consult with my clients to marshal out the way forward”.
How welcome would the APC at both the state and the national levels react to the development, which would translate to leaving the party freely to the ruling PDP party that has incidentally inaugurated its 2023 campaign council moment after the nullification of the APC governorship primary elections in Adamawa state?
This takes another story…
